Jason Johnson to Tribe?

Rosenthal (as Ryan pointed out, does this guy ever sleep?) just reported it is likely, pending passing of a physical.  

Little known fact about Jason Johnson.  According to The Hardball Times, he was 2nd to Westbrook in the A.L. in groundball/flyball ratio.  

The much needed and always popular "rotation-depth" signing.

I'm not a Jason Johnson fan. I'd personally rather have Carmona or Sowers or Davis as the fifth starter.

The one good thing about him is that he's pretty durable. Like cheech said, he has a good G/F ratio.

Not a fan of this pickup at all. He's durable, but he's not very good at all. I think we'd be better off just going with one of the kids for the fifth spot in the rotation.

I was in the same camp, but thinking about it lately, we were incredibly lucky last year.  We were one of only 2 teams with 5 starters with over 30 GS each (the other was STL).  

1 yr/$4M for insurance and depth doesn't seem bad to me.  Johnson had a 94 ERA+ last year, better than Elarton's 89.

I'm with mkwng.  The odds are that a couple of the kids will get their shot this season even if we do sign a fifth starter.  The report also said the deal would include a 2007 club option, which is also a good idea.
