Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Options

What players on the 40 man (and not assumed to have a guaranteed spot on the 25 man) are out of options?

Phillips is generally known to be out of options (as was Tallet), but where do Jason Davis, Jason Stanford, Jason Dubois, and the rest of the 2006 Bisons fall?

How many options remain for players with options?

Anybody have a handle on this?

Re: Options
The only one I know for sure is Jason Davis still has an option for 2006. I believe Dubois does as well, but I'm not positive. Another couple are Guthrie has one more year, Guiterez has two more years, and Tadano has one more year.

Not sure on Stanford

Don't forget this link.  http://geocities.com/rocktrdglr/Options/Options

The options are on the far left.

Looks like
Brown, Cabrera, Cruceta, and Phillips.

Also Broussard and Bard as well.

Re: Options
Andrew has another option left, because of injuries.

Cruceta is no longer with the organization.

So I think it's just Cabrera and Phillips.

Re: Options
So, conceivably, Davis, Brown, Stanford, and Dubois could all start the year in Buffalo?

Sounds like next year is really the breaking point for all of these "prospects", if you figure that Guthrie and Tadano are out of options after 2006.

Re: Options
I think you'll find the table at the end of this article is accurate. Broussard isn't on it -- I only listed pre-arbitration players in that table -- but I believe he does have an option year left.

Re: Options
Well, on second thought, it looks like I whiffed on Cabrera. Looks like they added him to the 40-man roster prior to the 2003 season. I have no idea why they did, but they did. Anyway, Ryan seems to have it right, no more options for Cabrera.

Re: Options
From this we can figure the pitching staff is full unless we make a trade?
Starters:  Sabathia, Westbrook, Lee, Byrd, and Johnson
Bullpen:  Wickman, Cabrera, Riske, Sauerbeck, Betancourt, Miller, and Rhodes.

Re: Options
That's probably accurate. There's really only one spot (the fourth outfielder) that should be up for competition.

Of course, this is assuming everything stays status quo between now and then.
