White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd

Does this mean Westbrook or Lee for Milledge is closer to happening? I hope so.

Not sure what this has to do with Milledge to Cleveland...

I don't get this for the ChiSox. It seems like Rowand and Floyd would have made a lot more sense for them (freeing them up to deal Brian Anderson to Texas). If not Rowand, surely they could have picked up a major leaguer and a prospect for Garcia in this market.

Absolutely.  We've been talking all month about the value of SP.  Weird.

They're killing it over at South Side Sox.

Whoa.  Way different vibe over there.  I noticed someone over there suggested they trade for Coco---might actually make some sense.

My favorite quote from over there:

"I'm as confused as when my divorced parents remarried each other - really."

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
Have you forgotten that they needed a spot for Brandon McCarthy?  They're valuing SP all right.  Their future.

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
But they could've arguably gotten substantially more for Garcia than they did...

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
Not necessarily. He didn't look all that good last year.

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
Oh come on Dean, regardless of last year's stats, the market is insane for starting pitching this year.  Garcia is still a proven commodity that has what this market would judge as a "reasonable" contract, 9 mil/07, 10mil/08.  He hasn't pitched fewer than 200 innings since 2000.  You don't think he shouldn't pulled more than that?  Wait, am I arguing over what the White Sox should've gotten?  Oh, sorry, I snicker at them.

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
I don't know. He had a pretty good couple of seasons, but he was never "ace" material that I saw. His K and BB/9 rates are nothing special and he doesn't have a scary out pitch. Heck, his numbers will look pretty horrid in Philly. I would judge him to be better than Byrd, but just as effective as Westbrook. Of course Jake will get that $$ on the open market, so who knows.

Philly just unloaded some big ticket items, and now are collecting them again? Weird.

As for Floyd. He was a top prospect for a few years but hasn't panned out. I think it really was a blah blah trade for both sides. Besides, now McCarthy can start (which helps my fantasy squad a bunch - I now have Santana, Bedard, Burnett, Meche and McCarthy).

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
I've never gotten into the fantasy baseball thing, I don't know why, I think lack of time.  I don't think it's safe to ever try to figure out what the Phillies are doing, be careful with that.  You might wind up giving yourself an aneurism.

I don't know how good Garcia will be in Philly, but I still think that the White Sux could've gotten more.

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
Well Minaya was shopping Milledge for Freddy Garcia.

Re: White Sox trade Freddy Garcia for Gio Gonzalez
Minaya appears to be shopping Milledge to everyone while his value seems high.  He clearly seems to want to sell high on Milledge - he may not be as enamored of him now that he's seen him at the major league level.
