A previous poll/post talked about what we had to accomplish on the homestand vs. Det, KC and Pit.
The good news was our pitching seems to be coming around (Johnson not withstanding). However, our offense seems to have slowed down a little, down to 4 runs/game. Not to mention we finished 5-1 in the last 6 games. Unfortunately it was against KC and Pit, teams that aren't very good. And we got swept by Detroit in the first 3.
Most of the prev votes had us going 6-4 (16 votes), 7-3 (12) or 5-5 (8). Since we also had a rainout, I'd say the predictions were fairly accurate.
Since we did not get on a hot winning streak in the last homestand, we are really going to have to play well in the next 9 games, since they are all division matchups.
I believe we need to go at least 6-3 in these nine games to get us back into the division race. Preferably 7-2 or 8-1, but a minimum of 6-3.
@Minnesota - only a two game set, but we do face Santana (especially the way he is throwing at the moment), more than likely we'll have to for the split against Radke in Game 2. But I think we can sweep this 2 game set. Likely? No. But possible, yes.
@Detroit - Good news, we miss Maroth. Bad news, we still get Rogers and Verlander. This means we have to beat one of these guys and have Westbrook beat Robertson. Not to mention we are counting on Byrd vs Verlander or Johnson vs Rogers. It is imperative we take 2 of 3 in this series.
Chicago - 4 game set. Matchups are like this: Vazquez vs Lee, Buehrle vs Sabathia, Garcia vs Westbrook, Contreras vs Byrd. Can we go 3-1 in this set? Good news, no Johnson start. Of the four, the most sure W looks to be the CC start. But we would still need two more Ws. Our hitting is going to have to be patient and get our starters a lead.
Just my thoughts.
