Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox

Nothing too exciting, we're getting a PTBNL. and giving up some cash

http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060621&c ontent_id=1516249&vkey=pr_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle

Anyone who knows the Sox system have any thoughts on who it could be or who would be worth trying to get?

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
Hey don't they owe us something for Mota. Or have The Cosmos just balanced out?

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
It might just be Boston picking up the remainder of Johnson's contract.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
I imagine that it is.  My math says that he's owed at least $1.9 million the rest of this season, plus a 500K buyout next year.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
Not according to the report.  It appears they will pick up the remaining ~$2.45 million -- and also send us either a minor leaguer or cash.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
they are . . . and their infield defense seems to be decent, so I think they are also hoping that will help.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
They actually are on pace to set a new record for fewest infield errors.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
That would make more sense.  But:

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has traded RHP JASON JOHNSON and cash to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
Sorry, I meant this as a reply to your comment about cash.  The portion I quoted from the article says that we are sending cash.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
You're right.  I read it three times before I saw it.  Looks like we are picking up some of the salary.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
If I had to guess, the Indians are picking up a portion of Johnson's remaining salary, and the Red Sox will give the Indians either a player or cash.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
Rumor is the Sox are picking up $1.5 million and the Tribe $1.0 million of the remaining dollars owed (Olney?)

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
I guess we're going to have to come up with some other way to get Johnny Mac back, eh?

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
hate these stupid PTBNL trades. we are supposed to get someone from the coco deal still, and now another one. let's get them already. who's ready to see jj's miraculous turnaround? i can't imagine it will happen. boston just acquired the biggest dud signing of the offseason

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
With an adequate to good defense behind him, there's no reason Johnson can't post a league average-ish ERA and considering Boston's offense, a winning record.

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
But what if he just doesn't know how to win?

by Jay on Jun 21, 2006 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: Jason Johnson Traded to Red Sox
Seems to me if the Sox just absorb his contract, we don't need anything back for him.
