Guardado to Reds

I floated the possibility of trading for Eddie Guardado back before the wheels fell completely off the 2006 season.  Now the Reds have done just that, picking him up for AA pitcher Travis Chick, according to ESPN.com.

Guardado lost his closer's role at Seattle this season, but Krivsky said he'll get the chance to claim the job in Cincinnati.

"I wanted to do something that made sense, and this deal makes sense to us," Krivsky said. He expects Guardado to bring "veteran influence that will settle down" the bullpen, "and we can start closing out these games."

It's an interesting trade for Tribe fans - it sort of sets the market for Wickman, should he accept a trade.  I think we knew it wouldn't be terribly high, but if the M's can pull anything for Guardado, we should be able to get a player for Wickman.  And Krivsky's quotes suggest that GMs are still looking for that "veteran closer."
