Chapter 7 Major League 2
You could not believe the excitement when sitting a movie theater to watch some movie with Girlfriend J I heard the crack of the bat and then appeared the trailer for Major League 2. I was shocked and excited. I didn't think that it could not be as good as the original movie. I was pumped that a new Major League was on the way. Wayne and I went opening night and even received a free mini movie poster which I had for years until years of moving destroyed. ML 2 was a mixed bag. Here is my spin on the movie:
It was the Indians.
Bob was funny again.
Some good quotes provided in the film.
Some of the favorite characters from the original were back.
So let me get this straight. The owner wants to move the team and they play in an old stadium. In the sequel, they play in a brand new ballpark (filmed at Camden Yards). So new owner Roger Dorn takes over as owner of the team and is able to get a brand new park built from October to April. Okay.
Speaking of Roger Dorn, what did they do with that character? In the first movie, Dorn is a cool veteran player with the sweet ride and the pretty wife. He is cocky and selfish but still can deliver in the clutch. You remember how he set the table for Pedro in the first movie. In ML 2, Dorn has been reduced to a clown. He is goofy not the slick character from Major League. They took a solid likable heel and turned him into a whiny loser.
The mystery girlfriend for Wild Thing was troubling. Where was she in the first movie? She was a cute girl but almost too nice to be real. I guess the idea was she was to be the sweet girl to the bad boy Vaughn. She would have been good maybe in the first movie as the opposites attract angle but it does not work.
The cast looked too old from the first film. I know for Sheen it was from hard living but he and Dorn looked 10 years older. Rachel Phelps' character is a prime example of this. What happened? She got ugly real quick namely in six years.
The Randy Quaid character was horrible. He is a funny guy and good actor but this character was just horrid. What kind of job does this guy have? He was everywhere. He was annoying and the not the wild and crazy fan he trying to be. The movie would have been just as good without him.
Willie Hayes Mays part two. Apologies to Omar Epps but I know Wesley Snipes and you sir are no Wesley Snipes! Wesley was great as Willie and poor Omar could not carry Willie's black hitting gloves.
Finally, it fell into the never good as the original movie category. It is hard to follow a classic with any movie.
