Good Article on THT

An interesting article that reveals, among other things, that last year's David Riske is better than anyone we have had in the pen this year. The article focuses mainly on the idea of Pitching Runs Created to show that the bullpen of this year has been, among other things, a massive disaster (notably Betancourt). You don't need this article to tell you this but in case someone didn't see it here it is:

Re: Good Article on THT
I had a different read than yours on Betancourt.  His PRC was not very high, correct, but he still led the team...and anytime you lead the team, you're not the most massive disaster, you're the best.

I could see where you get that from the text, however, as it is kind of misleading in calling his PRC anemic. Make sense?

Re: Good Article on THT
That makes sense.  Certainly you can't really pile the blame on Betancourt.

What the numbers show is that our top relievers have performed at a merely decent level, and our middle level guys have been horrible.  We haven't had a "Hafner" performer (like the Twins and Tigers have had), and we've had several holes.  Recipe for a bad pen.

Re: Good Article on THT
I understand what both of you said, however, Betancourt accumulated 17 less PRC this year in roughly the same amount of innings. He leads the team, yes, but he has only been the best of a very bad thing. Taking that from someone who was one of the best of a very good bullpen last year I think it is safe to call him a main part of the problem.
Wait 'til next year... or something like that

Re: Good Article on THT
Just did a rough count, and it looks like Betancourt is ranked about 50th in PRC among AL relievers with 25.  Cabrera is about 58th with 22.  That makes them average.

Of course, they were expected to be somewhat better than that, but they haven't been bad.  Betancourt in particular has been okay, all in all, but when your second-best reliever is just okay, well, we all know what that looks like.

I guess the main point is that there's a difference between "disappointing" and "bad."  Sort of gets back to that A-Rod article.
