The Curse of Kenny Lofton

If you are a fan of a team hoping for a WS win, the last player you want on your team is Kenny Lofton.  Not only do his teams lose in the playoffs, they have heartbreaking defeats

97- Indians
02- Giants
03- Cubs
04- Yankees
07 - Indians

I look forward to having Lofton play in Japan next year.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
I dont think Lofton was on the 97 Indians.  I think the CF was Grissom.

Am I right?

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Yeah, 1997 was Lofton's season in Atlanta.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
But the 97 Braves lost in the playoffs to the Marlins on the Eric Gregg strike zone debacle.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Well Kenny was on the '95 Indians who lost in the world series. But relaunch didn't put that on there.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Yeah, Kenny's not without blame either - he disappeared in the last 3 games as much as anybody.  1-10 with 1 BB.  Sucks.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Yeah, but if we woulda kept Omar and Thome and Manny, I bet Lofton's morale would have been higher!

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
am i the only one that would rather have lofton than delucci or michaels?

maybe that's a knee-jerk position, but i'm not so sure i wouldn't take him, curse and all.

Asdrubal: Spanish form of "Hasdrubal". Means "Ba'al helps" from Phoenician azru "help" combined with the name of the god BA'AL.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
+1 (although I don't know if he'd want to ride the pine as B Francisco takes over LF)

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
I would absolutely love to have Kenny back next year.  To me it looks like he has finally realized what his true skill set is and is playing accordingly.  In his latest tenure with the Tribe he played the game with a determination and edge that looked different from his last time through here.  I don't know if there is a real need or place for him on the team next year, but it would be cool if he could contribute.

I think to me the saddest part of yesterday, when I look back over the years, will be that we didn't win it for Kenny, and the fact that a blown umpire's call and Skinner's bonehead stop sign kept Lofton from scoring 2 critical runs.  I hate that this game always finds new ways to break my heart.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Kenny runs like there is drying cement in his hamstrings.  Weird.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Yeah Kenny should return. He can still play and will bring veteran leadership to this team that really showed its young age these last three games.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
I am actually looking forward to seeing Dellucci next year. As long as his injury wasn't debilitating He could platoon nicely with Micheals and produce power (something kenny can't).

I like Lofton to much to acknowledge any curse.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
If the Indians get a real power LF, I don't think there is a place for Lofton on the 2008 team.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
I shouldn't even respond to this, but anyway... tell us where they're going to get a power bat, please.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
tabler84, there's always a chance of something happening. He's not Mark Shapiro so it's unfair to ask him that question. Nobody has any idea who is going to end up on the market this season. There may just be another Bobby Abreu right around the corner. Unlikely, but I have to hold on to some optimism just like palcal is with a power bat.

Anyway, I was wondering what people think about Ben Francisco and Trevor Crowe. Does Crowe's turnaround make Ben more expendable. I assume that Ben is much more valuable on the trade market than Crowe. Crowe seems to be known as the guy we got instead of Jacoby Ellsbury, but I still believe he could be valuable. Any thoughts?

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Not that I think much of this theory ... but Lofton was also on the 2005 Phillies that missed the playoffs by one game.

I think the chance we re-sign Lofton is fairly remote.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
Yeah, I think he leaves as well.  But I have to say I was surprised to see that Kenny got the loudest ovation -- by far -- when starting lineups were introduced in game five.  And that place was LOUD for every player.  Wow.

Re: The Curse of Kenny Lofton
No curse.  Just losses.  Doubtful that Kenny comes back, and as happy as I was that he was here for the second half, it's probably for the best.  This isn't a team that's built on aging free agents. (See: Trot Nixon).  They have their time and place, but I can't see Lofton on the team next yar.
