Clemens Off Roster; Villone Back On . . . .
Just noticed this while perusing the web. I don't suppose there is too much news here, other than that the Yanks now have a lone lefty in their pen for the remainder of the series.

Who says Roger is really hurt? Why shouldn't the Indians sub now for Westbrook, since he won't appear again? Or Trot, since he's only there to hit off Clemens?
Bottom line, it was the Yankees choice to give a roster slot to this broken down old man. They should have to live with it.

MLB also has to approve each move, and I don't think you'll see many phantom injuries getting approved.

It's hard to imagine the league dictating to a team which players can and cannot be replaced, though. At least not without a potentially huge backlash should the league deem a player ineligible to be removed from the roster.

Re: Clemens Off Roster; Villone Back On . . . .
There is an argument that they should have rejected this one, and that is that Clemens (as the Game Three starter) would not have been expected to be available for any of the other games anyway. But that kind of logic is probably not part of the rules.
