Game Thread: October 8, 2007 - PART II

Top of the 4th ...

UPDATE: Here's steincat's letter to TBS, completed at the end of the 7th inning:

Dear TBS,

I can't tell you how happy I am that FOX has the ALCS. It is right now the 7th inning of game 4 of the ALDS, and your horrible, New York-biased announcers are making absolute fools of themselves, while not giving any credit to a solid and gritty Indians team.

Regardless of what happens in this series (by no means am I assuming that the Indians will win - not nearly in the way that Chip Caray assumes that the Yankees would win the Series since Game 3) - I am so happy that any AL matchup and World Series matchup will not have to be watched on your station.

Luckily, I have figured out that I can stream the radio and put TBS on mute while using a DVR to fix the time delay, and I no longer have to listen to these awful announcers. I'm happy because at least I can tolerate watching the NLCS that way.

But I feel that I don't have any respect for your network any longer after the game and a half I had to listen to. So be it - reruns of Friends were never that important to me anyways.

I may give you a mulligan next year if you change announcers, seeing as this is your first time. But if it's the same group - you can forget about it.

Best,

steincat

i don't want to brag, but when you get to choose between a bacond dog (not a hot dog with bacon, but a hot dog made of bacon), and a ribeye dog -- as well as about a dozen other exotic encased meats, which are always changing -- you just can't go wrong.

next time anyone is here, trust me: insist on checking it out. 3300 block of north california (i think).

Longest 9 inning game ever -- 4:45. It took us about 90 minutes to make it through 3 innings, I imagine some pitching changes in the late innings could stretch this one out & break the record.

That would mean that 1-run makes a big difference with this Yankees offense, which simply isn't true.  The Yankees offense is good enough that there's not a big difference between a 3-run and a 4-run lead.  Dumb dumb dumb.

3:00!
Hello everyone,

If you include the time before the Public Address Announcer started talking, that's 20 seconds.  Combine that with Ronan Tynin taking about 2:40 (it was around 2:33 last night,) that was 3 minutes!  3 minutes - no other team does this.

Like I said last night, I am mindful and respectful of the importance of God Bless America and NYC, but no other team, including the Mets, gets away with 7th inning stretches that long - that's why it has been mentioned by others, including Twins manager Ron Gardenhire.

Just my 2 cents - no offense to anyone.  :-)

Go Tribe! :-)

I'm still here - not sure if Hafner was interfered
with or not - love though how Brenly thought that Hafner's might have been just barely, but I don't recall that for Posada or whichever Yankee it was who was interfered with.

I sure hope Borowski does the job if he's in there in the 9th - he better not blow it!

Re: Game Thread: October 8, 2007 - PART II
i say it again, can we really risk it with JoBo?  We let Betancourt pitch and it's won.

I know JoeBo is our closer, but I'd think I'd like
the matchup with Betancourt better against Jeter/Abreu/A-Rod.  I wish Wedge felt the same way, but I have a feeling he won't.

Come on Indians - score at least one more run so that Wedge sticks with Betancourt.

Great win!!! :-)
Hello everyone,

A great win and a great performance by Byrd - way to go!  Borowski had another "scary" performance, but he did get the job done.  The way Wedge seems committed to using him scares me though, especially if we only have a 1-run lead - I wish he'd consider using Betancourt/Perez/Lewis in those situations, especially when you have the heart of the opposing order up.

As for this series, it's great for the Indians to win this in 4 and be able to use CC in game 1 and Carmona in game 2.  ESPN's Tim Kurkjian thinks there are several reasons for the Red Sox to be aware of the Indians:

  1. Sabathia and Carmona
  2. The bullpen, specifically the Raffys (he didn't mention Lewis, who should probably be included.)

He said that Francona probably hopes the Red Sox hold the lead by the 6th because the Indians' bullpen may not give it back if we lead.

It should be a fun series, and hopefully, we'll come out on top!

Go Tribe - keep up the great work!  :-)

Go Tribe! :-)
