Re: Game Thread: October 8, 2007 - PART III
My letter to TBS, completed at the end of the inning: Dear TBS - I can't tell you how happy I am that FOX has the ALCS. It is right now the 7th inning of game 4 of the ALDS, and your horrible, New York-biased announcers are making absolute fools of themselves, while not giving any credit to a solid and gritty Indians team. Regardless of what happens in this series (by no means am I assuming that the Indians will win - not nearly in the way that Chip Caray assumes that the Yankees would win the Series since Game 3) - I am so happy that any AL matchup and World Series matchup will not have to be watched on your station. Luckily, I have figured out that I can stream the radio and put TBS on mute while using a DVR to fix the time delay, and I no longer have to listen to these awful announcers. I'm happy because at least I can tolerate watching the NLCS that way. But I feel that I don't have any respect for your network any longer after the game and a half I had to listen to. So be it - reruns of Friends was never that important to me anyways. I may give you a mulligan next year if you change announcers, seeing as this is your first time. But if it's the same group - you can forget about it. Best,

  1. They should want NY to win.  It's the biggest viewing market.

  2.  I would assume Yankees fans weren't thrilled to see Craig Sager high-fiving Tribe fans.

  3.  They probably hear these complaints all the time.

Re: Game Thread: October 8, 2007 - PART III
1. Agreed as a network, but I just wish the announcers would be a little less biased, especially considering none of these guys has any reason to favor the Yankees that I'm aware of. 2. Probably right, but that's a one time slap in the face, as opposed to the grating sound of Tony G and Chip Caray over the course of 4 hours. 3. Agreed - but this was cathartic for me at some level.

Re: Game Thread: October 8, 2007 - PART III
Maybe I'm insane, or maybe there were just no positives that they COULD have talked about for the Yankees this series, but I actually thought the announcers had a distinct pro-Cleveland bias.  Granted, they didn't seem to know anything about the Indians, but they sure loved to show us the graphic about how each team was batting with two outs or runners in scoring position for the series, didn't they?  I thought it was most obvious during the Shoppac HBP fiasco tonight.  You can debate if it hit him or not until the cows come home, but they all watched the clearly inconclusive reply and immediately agreed that "the ball clearly hit him".
Overall, regardless of any bias, I'm thrilled to not have to listen to them again just because of how incredibly boring and incompetent they were the entire series.  Did the rain stop yet?  Was there rain on the forecast?  Is there anyone up in the Indians bullpen?  How many pitches has each pitcher thrown?  In the ALCS, we might actually get answers to these questions!
. . .in gaudy, flashy graphics covering half the screen of course, but I actually don't think I'll mind this year.

-Wedge being loyal to him
-"it's a family"

I don't get to see the Tribe much out here in Cali so this is the first time I've seen him interviewed. The birdman has definitely moved up some notches in my book.

No, but Giambi has received the harshest treatment besides Bonds. I was at the Jake during teh '05 season for the Yanks series, and he was getting heckled, steroids chants, etc hardcore. (Dude HRed in the 9th off Wickman, if you will recall.)

Anyway, congrats Tribe. My fiancee is from Cle, so she's happy...

Great game, great pictures, great job!!!
Hello everyone,

Great game indeed, great series indeed!  :-)

Great job by Byrd, great job by the Raffys (outside of one A-Rod HR,) and a gutsy job by Borowski, though I worry about Wedge sticking to the idea of using him in closer games (like 1-run) - I sure hope he considers using Betancourt/Perez/Lewis in those closer situations, especially with the heart of the opposing order - that was too close for comfort with the HR and the near HR.

On ESPN, Tim Kurkjian thinks the Red Sox have several reasons to be aware of the Indians, specifically:

  1. Sabathia and Carmona
  2. Our bullpen, specifically the "Raffys."  (He didn't mention Jensen Lewis, who probably should be included as well.)

He also said that Francona probably wants the Red Sox to have a lead after 6 innings because the Cleveland bullpen might not give back the lead if we have it after 6 innings.

It should be a great series - hopefully, we'll be the ones to advance!

Go Tribe!  :-)

Re: BALLGAME!
That was awesome!

Had a great time at the Stadium. I'm guessing Grady's home run relaxed Byrd as much as it did me. I love Wedges call to go with Byrd, and am thrilled it worked out (and that I finally called something the right way). Didn't get back to Brooklyn till about 1:15, and loved every minute of it.

Re: BALLGAME!
What a fucking game!! I left home in the 3rd to watch the rest of the game at a bar with a firend.  I just spent the last hour reading about 1000 posts on here.  by the way, I've been drinking quite a bit during this so i apoligize for the typos and any other errors

Here are my thoughts on the evening:

  1. Quit getting mad at the bunting.  It's ok to play for one run in the playoffs, this isn't the regular season where the precentages will play themselves out.  Personally, I like bunting with a guy at second with 0 outs especially.  Bunting a guy from first to second is a little less cool with me, but its understandable with guys who are struggling and have bunting abiltiy (AstroCab)_

  2. I thought Lee wasn't on the roster, can people like that still be in the dugout?

  3. The Borowski v. Betancourt decision in the 9th was a big topic here and with me and my firend at the bar.  I would have def. wanted Raffy-R in there, but Wedge would have been killed if Raffy-R gave it up... I know the regu;lar media shouldn't matter, but the bottom line is that it probably is in Wedge's head.  I sure am glad that the tie-ing run never got to the plate because I think it was a huge error that Lewis wasn't up (at least I don't think he was.)

  4. There was a couple comments about how Caray said that 4 runs was much different than 3, but how the difference was only 1 run.  I would like to agree with you all, but the fact is, if the lead was 4, Borowski doesn't come out, so the diff is much more than just 1 run.

  5. TBS, overall, sucked.  I am a big fan of ESPN because I think they are great comapred to any other national programming in announcers, and, more improtantly to me, in production quality.  FOX is going to be painful.  Grrr.

  6. I hate the Yankees, but I feel really bad for Torre, I think he has done a damn good job and got treated  like shit for it.

  7.  Zempf had the stat of the day... Jeter: 18 outs in 17 plate apperances... that makes me smile .

  8. Pinestripe ally likes to complain that other teams have gimicky things like towels and dancing monkeys, but EFF them, the short porch in right and the "Daaaayyyy-ohhh" chant, and the God bless America thing are just as gimicky

I got a couple very close friends that are BoSox fans, including some of the best baseball fans I know. I can't wait to whip their ass.

GO TRIBE

Re: Congrats on the win
Congrats on beating up on the hated ones.  Dodger Sims Blog a blog that uses a very accurate baseball game simulator to give win probabilities of each game, will be running simulations on both of the league championship series.  To be honest the simulator didn't really like the Indians odds of beating the Yankees, niether did Vegas for the most part.  Things worked out well for the Indians, and you now face a tough opponent in the Red Sox who the simulator picked as the pre-season champions.  Good luck.
