The LA Times named the Tribe as one of seven possible suitors for the plump Florida Marlins third baseman.
I don't think it's any shock that the Indians could use an upgrade at third, but would Cabrera make sense and could we afford him (both in trade value and in the long term)?
As for trade bait, I'm sure Marte's name would come up, but everyone knows his overall worth has to be minimal at this point. I also don't see the Marlins getting all that giddy about the other medicore prospects that could go their way (not to mention that Shapiro would rather improve the minors, than deplete things).
Peralta's probably the most intriguing name that could be used in a Tribe blockbuster, but what use do the fish have for a middle infielder as they already have Uggla and Ramirez. It doesn't add up (although the same story reports that the the Marlins want Howie Kendrick from the Angels).
Adam Miller's name would likely come up (as I have to believe he is still considered in the Joba, Phil Hughes, etc. category on a long-term basis and those names were thrown around with NY). Again, I'm not super sure that this makes sense. Yeah, if we can parlay him somehow into Dontrelle Willis as well, but now we're getting super ridiculous.
Ultimately, I see us not having the desire, nor the right fit, to make such a move.
At this point, this seems like a gigantic pipe-dream.
On a side note, the guy I would love to land is Dontrelle. Long-term he's a lot better than he showed this past year, and I think he'll be a heck of a lot cheaper than he would have been in previous years.
