OT: New Addition to LGT Family

Hope Ivy was born on Dec. 10th at 10pm. Both mother and baby are doing well and are finally back home. Thanks much to all of you who offered your condolences at the start of the year and have kept us in your thoughts and prayers until this extremely happy day. Her first real cry came when ESPN showed highlights of the ALCS. Another Indians fan has been indoctrinated.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Congrats as well ....

But for my wife and I, the first six months were easier than the next 18 after that. Maybe a SSS ... ;)

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
I'm with Dean, the first 6 months (excepting the sleep deprivation) were a lot easier than once our kids got mobile.  Many congratulations Brad.  Enjoy the moments.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Perhaps Turk can lend some personal experience, as I believe he's just past both those stages.  Similarly, Chuck might be able to regale us with stories of what it was like to raise offspring in the 18th century, before the advent of disposable diapers and such.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Congrats.
The DiaperTriber turns 1 next Saturday and is getting mobile.  Sleep is less of a problem these days...chasing around a very mischevious little boy is the the thing sapping my energy.

Wouldn't trade it for anything though...not even Haren.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Upon further review, my wife has announced that the first 6 weeks are indeed the hardest.  I have no idea what I am talking about.  She is reading this over my shoulder as I type.  And I quote, "What in the hell do you know about it, you were asleep at 2AM while I was nursing and healing from where I'd been sliced open in the middle."

Tread lightly Brad, tread lightly...

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Congratulations - I have 3 boys between the ages of 14 and 7 and spent a decade changing diapers.

I can say without reservation that no age in particular is harder or easier - the challenges are just different.

So, enjoy every moment that you can with her, because the one thing that's for certain is that she'll grow up and you'll miss the way is used to be.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
I'm sorry Harry, you should not have a 10yr old that needs his diapers changed.  Time to lay off the whisky while you're in the booth and raise your kids properly.  Don't make Monty hold an intervention.

Brick,

"In case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't" - 3 kids over 10 years.

But you're right about Monty.  "He's not the best colorman in the league for nothing, folks!"

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
i didn't really think you had a 10 year old you were potty training.  but forwhatever reason your verbiage, correct as it was, gave me that imagery (should i call a shrink?) and inspired me to make a joke about it.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Brick,

Did you miss the sarcasm in my direct quotes from Major League?  Of course I knew you were joking, and I found it funny.

I'm quite used to a hyper-technical parsing of my words.  Surprisingly, that's not because I'm a lawyer.  The intense scrutiny of what I say most often comes from that 14 year old I was potty training about a dozen years ago.

Getting back on topic, that's another thing fwembt (and the other "new" parents around here) can look forward to - that age when your child adopts the opinion that you are the stupidest person on the face of the Earth.

At least since the '07 post season, I have a number of candidates to take that title away from me - Joel Skinner, Jonathan "River Dance" Papelbon, Manny, Joba ...

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
Congrats, bro!

I'm with those saying the first 6 weeks are the hardest, after that it is gravy until they start crawling. Unless they're colicky, which, God help you (my daughter was, it's not fun.)

But even when it's totally exhausting and you're holding that tiny little baby at 4am and begging her to go back to sleep, it's still totally awesome and worth every bit of sleep deprivation.

My daughter just turned 2 and we've got another one on the way. This may come as a shock to everybody here, but I have absolutely no plans to try to turn my kids into Cleveland sports fans -- we live in Chicago and I'll let them pick which teams they root for.

As long as it's not the White Sox.

But really, nobody should be forced to root for Cleveland teams if they don't have a darned good reason. I love my kids far too much to inflict that sort of pain on them.

yeah, you can't have your kids coming home one day with a mullet cuz their favorite player has one.

Re: OT: New Addition to LGT Family
My kids will have every ounce of Cleveland sports pain possible inflicted upon them, no matter where we live. this is how I was raised, and I'm damn proud of it.

I may be delusional, but I think being a fan of Cleveland sports speaks highly on one's character.
