Papelbon's Dog Eats WS Ball

For more proof that this guy's an idiot, see this article.

Apparently, he left the ball Varitek gave him from the final strike out of Game 4 "on the counter," and his dog Boss, "tore that thing to pieces."

I know that closers have a different mentality, but this guy's making Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn look like a Rhodes Scholar.

All we need now is a comment from Doug Mientkiewicz on the proper care and feeding of WS game used balls.

Huh.  I was going to go with 'none of the above' and write-in 'pop'

Re: Papelbon's Dog Eats WS Ball
Okay which is more rediculous, Doug Mienkiewicz keeping the 2004 world series ball, or Papelbon's dog eating the 2007 championship.

Can't the red sox win the world series without making headlines about the final out ball?

Re: Papelbon's Dog Eats WS Ball
If you guys really think his dog ate the ball you aren't as smart as you think you are.  He has the ball and is going to keep it.  Let him have!  Another Red Sox hating thread? Come on they didn't steal our wives or kill our brothers.  They are a great organization and one that does it right.  Really its just sad.

"If you guys really think his dog ate the ball you aren't as smart as you think you are."

Seriously.  If his dog doesn't change his eating mechanics he'll never be able to eat a baseball, and that's that.

Re: Papelbon's Dog Eats WS Ball
Mechanics, sure, but a lot of ball-eating is conditioning as well.

Honestly, the ball has more of a story now. It's not just another world series ball anymore.

Re: Papelbon's Dog Eats WS Ball
Funny how the "last out" ball only has significance if it involves the Red Sox.  I have never heard anything about the Cardinals, Marlins, Angels or White Sox players who managed to abscond with the precious baseball.

Because those teams don't exist. Only the Red Sox exist.

Dammit.  I always forget this.  Yay! Now I know Papelbon's dog's name!

...seriously, as a Boston fan, it must be nice to have ESPN as your local newspaper.  Why read Bob Ryan when Gammons and Simmons are on staff at the worldwide leader?

Sure? I am sure that last out World Series ball, if the Indians win will not mean anything.

I swear, next year is it.

he can't reach the counter.  that's how he scraped off all the hair on his head.  i mean, while he's the oldest rookie of all time, he's still too young to be loosing that much hair.

I thought the hair loss was from Papelbon petting him.

Read that as you will.

They should cut a record of Pedroia extolling his own virtues over the rhythms of Boston's bullpen percussion sets! That CD could cure constipation and flush out terrorist sleeper cells.

Ah.  Almost gritty.  Almost Ecksteinian.  I'm afraid in that case you're supposed to say, "Shucks, I'm just trying to help the team out any way I can."  Preferably with your hands in your pockets, looking down.
