with Boston, link, about 3/4 way down. The Sox also announced another move on Saturday, signing free agent Jonathan Van Every to a 2008 contract. Van Every was added to the 40-man roster, leaving Boston with two open spots.
The 28-year-old Van Every combined for a .307 batting average with 12 homers and 57 RBI in 95 games for Double-A Akron and Triple-A Buffalo in the Cleveland Indians organization in 2007.
We had worried about maybe having to put him on our 40 man if we had signed him prior to and lose him in the Rule 5. Obviously we weren't going to sign him until after Rule 5 since we are at 40 already.
No need worry now. He made Boston's 40, but probably will be stuck in Pawtucket next year, unless Ellsbury/Crisp are dealt. Then he might have a shot at the 25. Not to mention Theo usually will sign another Kielty type for the bench.
