An Overlooked Prospect

I really enjoy following the Tribe's prospects and speculating about the turnover.  The prospect evaluations that we went through about a month ago were very illuminating to me.  I was with the crowd for the first six but went far different from most after that.  The point of this is that I might have missed one and others might as well.

I have not seen him play, even on the net, but BA had some glowing words to say about Carlos Rivero.  He fits my criteria for posting to a prospect list but was off my radar.  For those of you who have some interest, here is the link to BA. :)

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
Anyone a BA member? Would love to read that article or parts of it at least.

Referring to the post I deleted ... this forum is not to be used to steal copyrighted material, directly or indirectly.  If you really want to read BA content, pay the $60 annual fee.

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
Hi Jay,

If I did something improper, I am sorry.  BA allows subscribers to email their articles with no restrictions and I have been doing it for years.  I was not aware this is different. :)

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
I've never heard of that practice for BA, and in fact we know through our SBN brethren that BA is the most legally aggressive of all the baseball sites we might quote around here.

This note on their web site leaves little room for confusion: "indicates Premium Content | Copyright © 1999-2007 Baseball America Inc. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed."

I'd be happy to see some language to the contrary.

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
Hi Jay,

Even on the premium content which I have had for some time, there is an email forward to anyone you want.  There is no restriction or anything different than regular articles.  I cannot imagine they would try to tell anyone the information is copy protected when they allow the unfettered email of the article.  But that's just logic! :)

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
Maybe we're talking about different things here.  The e-mail link on each Premium page merely generates an e-mail that includes the web address of the article.  If you send it to someone who is not a premium subscriber, they cannot see the article as far as I can tell.

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
Hi Jay,

That would sure come as a surprise to my brother and many friends.  They get the article with no problem.  If this is something special, I am not aware of it and most of my relatives and friends are way too cheap to pay for the premium service. :)

Re: An Overlooked Prospect
Pretty exciting!  Is this the same guy who played as Niuman Rivero last year?  Or is that someone else?

No, I think you're referring to Niuman Romero!
Hello ken,

I could be mistaken, but I think you're referring to Niuman Romero, who is a different ballplayer from Carlos Rivero (Rivera-Cola.)

Romero is from Venezuela and has played in the Indians' farm system from 2005-2006, at Burlington in 2005, at Lake County in 2006.
He played both SS and 2B at Burlington, but played just 2B at Lake County.  He was born in Jan. 1985.

Romero's stats:

Burlington:  .275/.374/.376
Lake County:  .228/.318/.274

I'm not sure about Rivero's age or birthplace (as it's not listed on the Baseball Cube,) but Rivero has only played SS at the GCL Indians and the Burlington Indians in 2006.

Rivero's stats:

GCL Indians:  .284/.338/.373
Burlington:  .212/.264/.303

This shows that Romero and Rivero are two different players.

Go Tribe! :-)

Re: No, I think you're referring to Niuman Romero!
Man, that's a lot of buzz for a guy with a .212/.264/.303 line at Burlington.  Is he exceptionally young (like, say, 16?) for his level?

Re: No, I think you're referring to Niuman Romero!
Hi indiansfan,

Rivero is 18, will be 19 in May, and is from Venezuela.  Signed at 16 for $100K. :)

Re: No, I think you're referring to Niuman Romero!
Thanks for straightening me out.  And Captain Easy's right that this is one case where it takes a scout to identify the prospect because you'd never know from the numbers.
