ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?

Sportscenter just reported that both games for today have been postponed.  The anchor said that one game will be made up tommorow (who knows which one) and one will be made up later in the season.

The Indians page still says Brian Slocum is pitching the nightcap tonight, so that hasn't been updated yet.

It's on yahoo.com now too -- http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-mariners-indians&prov=ap&type=lgns -- they're making up one game as part of a true doubleheader tomorrow & no word yet on the other one.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
so does this get the rotation set again? We don't need a spot start now, right?

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
Because there are no scheduled off days, if there are no more postponements, a spot start will be required by Thursday, because there will not be a starter with 5 days rest then.

Of course, what are the chances of no postponements next week with 9 home games in 8 days.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
Official.

CLEVELAND -- Burned once by the snow, the Indians and Mariners aren't going to press their luck again Saturday.

Both games of a hastily scheduled day-night doubleheader at Jacobs Field have been snowed-out, the club announced Saturday morning. A traditional doubleheader will be played in its place Sunday, beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. Gates will open at noon.

Fans holding tickets dated Sunday, April 8, will receive two games for the price of one. Those who have tickets from the April 6 and 7 games may exchange their tickets for any of the 81 remaining home games this season, beginning with the Sunday doubleheader.

Even if Sunday's doubleheader goes off as planned, the Indians and Mariners will still have to squeeze in another makeup game sometime this season. This is Seattle's only scheduled visit to Cleveland this year, so the teams will likely have to eat up an off day to get the game in.

**

Pitching matchups for Sunday's action have not yet been announced by either club.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
Indians get religion fast and take pressure off the pitching rotation, the catching situation, and the Martinez DL decision.

When is the last time the Indians played a "traditional" DH at home?

A lot more fan friendly than making the opening day fans show up at 1pm today to use their tickets.

Now tickets for April 6 and 7 can be used for any remaining game, and people who brave coming out on Easter can freeze for 7 hours for the price of one game.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
If I weren't 400 miles away, I would absolutely be there tomorrow.  Pick up some cheap seats, make my way over to a low row of the upper deck, right behind home plate, plan to spend $40 on hot drinks.  They should give away slices of hot Easter ham in the concourses.

I'm 200 miles away and if my car weren't making funny noises, I would so be there.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
Wedge probably pushed hard for an early postponement of today's DH.

The players need a day to get their heads on straight after yeaterday's disappointment, in addition to the risk of more injuries.

This will be their first off day in Cleveland and give them a chance to get settled in town.

We'll see how aggressive the Indians are in cancelling Sunday if things don't improve.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
If fewer than 3 games are played this weekend, will the league require the Ms to come to Cleveland on both May 21 and June 11 to make up games or will they let some of the games be made up on the Indian trip to Seattle in September.

We'll see how much support the league gives the Indians.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
I don't believe games are allowed to be played in their entirety in the "wrong" park.  In the case of a suspended (tie) game, if the only remaining games scheduled between the teams are at the opposite park, then the game may be completed at that park.  In every case, less than half of the standard nine innings would end up being played in the "wrong" park.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
That is certainly the policy of MLB, as opposed to MiLB, which regularly reschedules games in the "wrong park".  However, I don't think this policy is written in stone.  It would be interesting to research the last time it was violated.

Depending how the postponements unfold this series and over the coming months, the Indians may be at the mercy of the player's union, specifically the Mariners' players, since some options could violate the player's labor agreement.  Even the Indians might agree to play 1 make-up game in Seattle if the alternative were to play 3 games in 2 days after the final Sunday of the regular season.

Even if MLB agreed not to reschedule in Seattle on the hope that the games don't matter, the Indians could lose revenue for 1 or more games.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
We'll see.  Assuming they get in two tomorrow, my guess is that the league makes Seattle stop by for a game in Cleveland next month on their way down South, as you speculated.  Possibly give the M's the choice of playing one game or two, knowing that if they play only one, they may have to come back.

If they only play one, then everyone waits until September to see if the other one really needs to be replayed.  It's the two missed games that are the major problem; a single game much less so.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
High of 36.  Scattered snow showers, heavier in the morning.  Total accumulations of the day of 1-2" additional.  15-25 mph winds.

Better than the past two days, but not exactly perfect weather.

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
A few years ago the Marlins had to play "home games" against the Expos at US Cellular Field due to hurricanes in Florida.  As a Chicagoan, I'm more than willing to offer up Sox Park again for make-ups.

There are a lot of Chicagoans on this board, lets get the ball rolling now!

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
i'm game...

so did the marlins get last at bat, etc. like they were the home team?

Re: ESPN reporting doubleheader postponed?
Yes.  The Marlins were the "home" team on the schedule, so they got last bats.

I think the Indians had some kind of scenario some years ago where they played a home game at the visitor's park, and of course they got last bats then.
