Best Tribe Moment in April

I put it to you fellow LGT kinspeople.  We've had a pretty good month, but what do you see as our finest moment of the month.  They did something like this on XM this morning and I thought it might be fun.  I'll post mine later in the thread.  If this catches on, I'll do it again in May through, hopefully, October. I would propose that we expand the thread to capture the best LGT comments of April as well.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I will go with Garko's home run against the Devil Rays that won the game for us.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I think it's opening day.  Beating Chicago in Chicago, Sabathia making it through the start without straining an oblique, Sizemore leading off with a HR, and Peralta coming through with solid defense and 3RBI....all good indicators of things to come.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I greatly enjoyed Sizemore's reaction to J-Mike's stumbling, game-ending catch.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Both Sizemore's reaction and J-Mike's catch definitely qualify as great moments.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
April 12 and April 22 -- two game-winning three-run homers, each one to win a three-game series following what could have been a season-turning setback for the team.  April 12 -- Pronk in the home-in-Milwaukee series, rebounding from four idle days in the snow.  April 22 -- Garko at Tampa Bay, rebounding from a horrendous sweep in New York.

Performance of the month has to go to The Stopper: Fausto Carmona.  Nobody's season was more disrupted by the snow-outs than his, and his first start, delayed to April 13, did not go well.  He bounced back with a great performance that, by all rights, should have salvaged our Yankees series -- compare his 3.00 ERA for that series with the rest of our staff at 11.08.  Next, he merely outdueled the best pitcher in the game.   And finally, he dominated Baltimore in arguably the best start the Indians have seen this season, from anyone.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Carmona's start in Minnesota was pretty awesome too.  Obviously, I totally agree with the Pronk come from behind shot in Milwaukee (see below).

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I'd say either Opening Day against Chicago or the way all the Milwaukee fans came out to support the Tribe during the Anaheim series, that was pretty cool.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
My favorite moment this month happened in Milwaukee.  Shields comes in to pitch for Anaheim leading 2-1 after we gave them the lead on two errors in the top of the eighth.  Miserable.  Shields walks Grady, then walks Nixon.  And up comes Pronk.  Pronk hadn't homered for 6 weeks, and even then it was in an intrasquad game.  Shields throws a ball to open the at-bat and then Pronk crushed the second pitch, a high fastball, to deep right center, right over Borowski's head as he was sitting the bullpen.

After the game, Pronk tells reporters "Apparently, I've got a lot of home runs saved up."

Grady fist pump rounding first after game one leadoff HR.  Grady fist pump rounding first after game 3 leadoff HR.  Grady fist pumping after Micheals basket catch.  Grady fist pump after inside the park HR.

A slightly creepy theme...

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Another vote for the 4/12 HR by Pronk.  It certainly quelled a lot of panic here - "How will they rebound after the snow?"

Second place to the leafblowers in the OF on the home opener.

I'm a sucker for this kind of thing but Grady's inside the park. It's the coolest thing in baseball and Grady has done it twice now. Awesome.

First pitch of the season. Man, I was really looking forward to baseball.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I'm late to the thread.

That being said:
Baseball moments
-Grady's leadoff HR on the second pitch of the season. (And his 2nd leadoff HR two days later).
-The whole Milwaukee series. Was absolutely fantastic, and surreal.
-K-Brera's dominance.

LGT moments
-Indians haiku.
-Nicknames (K-Brera, etc)

Favorite post:
I can't remember who posted it. But the whole thread had been negative, negative, negative. And we were all talking about how we're going to lose that game which we should have won. It might have been the Pronk HR in Milwaukee, but not sure.

It went something like this:
"I love this team. I love its schizophrenia. I love its infield defense."

Will the author please take credit?

That would be Andrew (afh4), lost in the euphoria of Pronk's April 12 game-winner.

Yeah that was a great, great moment.

Jay, you guys are killing me with this banner. Now it says "Gritty Clutch Leadership 24/7"

How often is it changing? It's amusing me endlessly.

Ahh, wait, it says "Clutchy." Second time today I've laughed at it.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I just changed it.  The previous one ("In Pythagoras We Trust") I believe was the first time we've ever had a front-page title.  It was just an empty slot in the blog system waiting to be filled.  So it's either changed almost never (twice in three years) or about once a week (twice in two weeks).

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Didn't the title used to say something about the Crisp trade? I vaguely remember something like "Covering the Crisp trade since 2005"

Off-topic since it was March 1, in the first Spring Training Game Thread, but for me, this Comment really set the tone for the whole season here.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
I thought about requesting a true-to-life PoTW feature, but really it might undercut the sincerity of our discussions if we spend all our time trying to be memorable and funny. Instead, let me point out my favorite comment from the month and leave it at that. Roger's "garko is a true indian." Really, it hits all the right notes: making fun of the Yankees...well, that's it, actually, but that's plenty for me.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Best Moment: Grady's inside the park HR. I am greatly biased by having been there, but that was incredible.

Best LGT Moment: Indians haiku. The addition of important factors such as clutch and grittiness to every conversation is not really a moment but is certainly welcome.

Worst Moment: Borowski and the Yankees.

Wait 'til next year... or something like that

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Worst moment:  Victor coming up lame in the snow game.
Best moment:  I can't recall the game ... CC was dominating at home, he knew it was his last inning, he was in a bit of a jam, and got out of the inning with a nice throw by whoever was playing third (I think it was Blake).  The cameras show him yelling "FUCK YEAH!  THAT'S RIGHT MOTHERFUCKERS!" clear as day.  That was awesome.

Also, Pronk's Brew-Crew homer.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
For me it's was a four way tie:

  • Grady's inside the park HR.  That was just phenomenal.

  • The Milwaukee series with the great fans there.  I now have a favorite NL team.

  • Dr. Faust's pitching, especially since he's gotten better and better.  I didn't think he could do better than outdueling Santana, and then he handcuffs Baltimore like he did.

  • The defensive plays of Grady and Barfield.  I'm excited to come back to the states this summer so I can watch games live instead of listening and looking for highlight replays later.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with how this team has handled itself given all that's happened.  I agree with Nixon when he says the team is still finding its identity, but what we've seen out of them so far is so encouraging.  I'm starting to get the feeling that this could be a special year.  I'm not saying it'll turn out all roses with a parade at the end, but somethings going on here - and I'm really excite to be watching it.
Officially on the bandwagon calling for Wedge's head.

Re: Best Tribe Moment in April
Best April moment: Gotta go with that pronk homer in Milwaukee. It set the tone for the season, sort of saying "we're not gonna let stuff like this get us down!"

By the way, I love this site. Some of you guys are truly brilliant.
