CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?

Someone (I want to say Turkmenbashi, but I've got a memory like a goldfish) suggested we do diaries to see who's going to what games when, and since I'm trying to decide if I'm going to the Friday or Saturday (or none at all) game of the Indians/Reds series, I thought I'd see who all else is going and make my decision based on if anyone awesome will be there. :)

Also, as a bit of an aside, and I realize that this is probably not the place to ask, does anyone happen to know of any vegetarian restaurants in downtown Cleveland? Not restaurants with vegetarian options, but actual vegetarian restaurants. I'm... kind of a picky eater, and I want to know if I have to plan to pack myself some sandwiches for my trip (or if I must steel myself for meals made of naught but french fries) or if I can actually plan to eat out.

It's not exactly downtown (maybe 15-25 minutes away, depending on traffic) and it's not totally vegetarian, but put Tommy's on your restaurant list.

I second Tommy's....make sure you get a milkshake!

I'll third the Tommy's suggestion. Fantastic food, and Coventry is a really cool area.

I live just around the corner - Coventry is pretty cool and I know a few veggies of various types who love Tommys

You know that a good portion of options at any Indian restaurant (that's "Indian" as in "from the Indian subcontinent") will be vegetarian, right?  Though I am not in Cleveland so can't tell you whether such establishments are plentiful.

well, I'm actually vegan, and then I get into the whole ghee thing and it just gets very complex. :) but yeah. Indian restaurants are supposed to be good for such things. I'm just kind of wuss about them.

Make the splash into Indian dining. You'll be happy you did. The saag (spinach) dishes tend to be excellent.

My vegetarian ex-gf was a big fan of the aloo mutter gobi, although it might run into yer ghee issues.

You could always just show up and ask for a plate of basmati rice.

Can't believe how much people drink in this forum.

I quit. Last night I had 24 shots of vodka and cask and cream. Today I spent the day wishing I knew when to quit.

This is why you're a miserable founding member of any group of ladies.  You don't know when to say when.  It's sad.

My brothers were in town. Things tend to get a bit out of hand when that happens. I am sorry for the shame and disgrace I have brought to Drerikbrady's Ladies.

It's DrBradyQuinn's Medicine Ladies that we should be concerned about at this point.

If you only have the beer at Great Lakes Brew Pub, it counts as vegetarian, right?

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
yes, but unfortunately that results in me getting drunk under the table by everyone else at the table, who is presumably also eating.

AnG --

I'll be at the Saturday game most likely, with my cousins who will be in town from Cincy.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
Have you checked out Panini's?

No, seriously, my suggestion would be, eat somewhere out-of-state.  My wife (only a vegetarian) has a pretty dreary diet when we visit Ohio, and not just because she married into a family that might well have several gold medalists in the meat-shoveling-into-one's-own-face competition, if only that were an Olympic sport, which obviously it should be.

You might also consider switching to Vogonism.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
Ha! Actually, Cleveland appears to be a giant step up from eating out where I live, over on the rural west central side of the state, where I can sometimes get some wilted iceberg to snack on if I go out, and I've found the eats in Columbus generally livable, although that's mostly because the girl I always visit in Columbus lives right next door to an Aladdin's Eatery.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
Yeah, that would help.  I actually spent plenty of time over in that part of the state as a kid, as my Mom's family lived in Lima.  I don't remember there being much there outside of Kewpee's -- but there I go talking about meat again.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
Yeah, there's an OSU branch and some Kewpee's and that's about all there is of interest around these parts.

And Kewpee's isn't all meat. Sometimes it's pie.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
There's an Aladdin's on Cedar Rd. in Cleveland Heights, though I'm not sure if it's the same ownership as the restaurant you're talking about.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
I'm a native Clevelander and I make sure to get a little meat into every meal.  I love the stuff.  If USA Today ever did a "Best and Worst cities for Vegan Living" ranking, Cleveland would be dead last or close.  It's Thommy's [sic] or Aladdin's, or some place I've never dined at called Cafe Limbo.  That's about it.  I suggest you have a picnic at Edgewater or Willard park, or else stop in at the Feve in Oberlin on the way.

Re: CLE v CIN this weekend - anyone going?
All my vegan friends love Peking Gourmet. It's only a few miles east of the Aladdin's on Cedar Rd mentioned earlier in this thread.

Scene Magazine named it Best Vegetarian restaurant. Although not a vegetarian, I always order from Peking Gourmet's vegetarian menu. It's very good.

There's also a Whole Foods directly across the street, in case that would interest you.
