A letdown tonight after a fantastic sweep of Detroit...but at least Tampa came back in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Tigers. Here are some farm highlight from the weekend, including Jared Goedert's promotion (sorry, no player links tonight)...
Buffalo went 2-1 over the weekend. Aaron Laffey had his best start in Buffalo today (8IP,6H,2R,1BB,3K) but got a loss; Sean Smith had his worst start of the season Friday (6IP,8H,4R,4BB,2K) but got a win; and Jason Stanford continued to audition for someone else's rotation (8IP,4H,1ER,3H,4K). Gutz (5-14,HR,BB), Brad Snyder (3-7,2HR,2BB), Choo (6-14,2B,2 3B,BB), and Mulhern (5-11,2 2Bs, 3BBs) had good weekends. Mujica shook off his Cleveland rust and picked up where he left off in his previous Buffalo stint with a perfect inning of relief Friday night. Matt Miller also has looked better of late.
Akron also took 2 out of 3 over the weekend, getting the better of Erie. Lofgren gave up a bunch of hits today (8) and a big 3-run jack in taking the loss, but did manage to strike out 8 in 5 innings while walking only one. Shawn Nottingham got the victory on Saturday despite walking 6 and striking out none in 7 innings of work (5H,3R). Scott Lewis also had control problems Friday, walking 5 and only lasting 3.1 innings. He was saved by 4 innings of shutout relief from Reid Santos. Santos, a 24-year old Hawaiian native has been putting together a strong season out of the bullpen for Akron (1.46 ERA,.149BAA,19K,6BB,24.2IP). Trevor Crowe, now spending his time near the bottom of the Akron lineup, got hits in all 3 games (4-11,2 2Bs,BB). Barton (5-10,2 2Bs) also had a pair of doubles.
Kinston ended up on the short end of a 2-1 decision against Winston-Salem. David Huff had a nice start Friday night (6.2IP,5H,1R,1BB,7Ks) but couldn't get the victory as Kinston only plated one runner and a passed ball was all it took to give W-S the victory. Max Ramirez had a HR(7) today, a 2B(8) yesterday, and went 4-9 over the weekend to raise his average to .301. The much anticipated promotion of Jared Goedert occurred today as well. This coincides with Wes Hodges sitting out Kinston's weekend games (he's been out since the 21st)...I wasn't able to find if Hodges is injured, but we'll finally see how Goedert does against slightly more advanced pitching.
Lake County also went 1-2, losing two to Lakewood but taking today's game against Hagerstown. Jeanmar Gomez, Paolo Espino, and Neil Wagner combined to pitch the shutout while Nick Weglarz hit a solo HR(8) and Matt Whitney added an rbi single. Stephen Wright pitched well enough to win Saturday (5IP,2H,1R,1BB,4K) but got let down by the bullpen. Goedert earned his promotion by going 4-9 in the two losses. Young SS Carlos Rivero (5-13,2 2Bs) also had a nice weekend at the plate.
