Pictures from today's game

I drove up to Camden Yards today, about 40 miles from my house, to watch the game.  I took my camera and lucked into some pretty good photos including the pitch that Travis hit for the grand slam.  I uploaded them here http://tinyurl.com/2qhuf2

I've been trying to get the hang of sports photography for a year or so. I'm getting better but what I really need is a 375 pound biker friend with bad teeth and worse hygiene to sit next to me and clear the fans away when there's an exciting play.

Today's game was about as good as it gets. Perfect weather, great seats, great Indians pitching, and our bats finally exploded in the late innings.  I feel some of my antagonism from last year beginning to melt.  I might even go so far as to say Wedge seems to be maturing into a decent manager.  I might.

Great pics.  Yesterday was my first trip to Camden and I've got to say it was a beautiful place to watch a game (although I was disappointed by the crabcake sandwich).

Great Stuff, Thanks for sharing!

Wedge might want that closeup of Casey for above his fireplace.

Really fantastic.  High quality pics.  I love the Hafner swings and the superb Bradford pose.  Thanks.

Sorry, I'll stop.

Thanks again Lefty!

Re: Pictures from today's game
Very nice photos.  Do you use a digital SLR and tripod, or did you get really good seats?  The player with the killer handle bar mustache chatting with fans is Trot Nixon, not Ryan Garko.

Re: Pictures from today's game
Ach, you're right, it is Nixon.  My apologies to Garko!  I just fixed it. Thanks.

I had great seats today, third row just past third base.  I have a small Canon digital camera with a 12 power zoom and image stabilization.  The only drawback is it's low resolution, only 6 megapixels.

Awesome pictures LC. You have been clutch since Spring Training with the pics. As a matter of fact, I nominate you for a Harold Reynolds hug.

Excellent pics man. That Hafner one is my new desktop.

What's with all the Ultimate Warrior eye black this year?  Does that stuff smear when applied to face grit?

Re: Pictures from today's game
I was thinking the same thing.  The pictures show Nixon and Blake sporting it, but Hafner was too.  Team unity?

Do you often make it to Camden for Indian's games?  Maybe next year?

Re: Pictures from today's game
Strangely, I had only done it once before for an Indians game.  Now it seems like a must, every year.  Much less aggravation than hitting Yankee Stadium.  I'm going to try to work out a trip to RFK next month.

RFK is absolutely terrible.  I was going to try to go down to DC for that series as well but now I have a wedding to attend.

I'll be in DC for two games of that series too, but strangely I also have a wedding to go to and will miss the first game

Absolutely, I make sure I get to one game.  I did two this trip.  And I'll plan to get down to RFK in June as well.  Probably bring my 6 year old.

Great photos. Is that Gutz making that catch in the 9th though? I don't remember if he came in but it looks like him.

Gutz did make a catch in the 9th.  Made it look pretty easy too and he was looking right into the sun.

Re: Pictures from today's game
I checked the photo again and the background puts the play in right field.  I checked the box score and found Gutierrez replaced Nixon in the 9th, so yup, that's Franklin.

I corrected the caption.  Thanks!

Those are great pictures. I love the one of Hafner getting the GS pitch; he looks like a coiled spring or something there -- you can really see him winding up to sock that one.

Re: Pictures from today's game
By the way, I fully believe that if Pronk had slid, he would have come in under the throw and been safe.  Bako didn't have the plate blocked at all when the throw came in from Markakis.  Bako just wasn't set up in the right place.

Re: Pictures from today's game
Do you have any more pics?  Jay and I were sitting across from you and a little higher up.  I'm wondering if you actually caught us on camera.  For reference, if you look at the picture of Garko batting, we would've been slightly above and to the right of that picture.  I was in a dark blue Indians jersey with a script I hat and Jay would've been two seats to the right of me.

Re: Pictures from today's game
Actually, to the left in the photo.  I'll be in a faded red Indians T-shirt, stuffing my face with pastrami, in between Erik and my friend Jason, in a white T-shirt that says "Choke: Official Soft Drink of the New York Yankees."

I don't think we'd be anywhere near a photo at the plate from that vantage point.  More likely to see us behind the pitcher, as we were right in between first base and the plate.  We were pretty much dead in the middle of the section, a little closer to the top.

You think?  If that's true, I should go back and look at the pictures.  We might already be visible.

Re: Pictures from today's game
Don't know if you looked at the pics again.  The ones most likely to show you are Carmona throwing out Patterson, Hafner at third, and Peralta rounding 3B.

I added another picture that is sure to include you but it shows the entire first base side of the stadium so there's not much detail. Were you in one of the three section directly behind the Os dugout? If so, which one?

Re: Pictures from today's game
We were in section 26, maybe halfway up the section.

Re: Pictures from today's game
We were under the bank of america sign.  I remember that now after a foul ball went into the club seats above us and Jason said "if that ball comes back down from the bank of america, it's mine."

Re: Pictures from today's game
This is a where's Waldo kind of thing.  We should be doing this whenever pics from a Tribe game are available.  We need to come up with some kind of gesture to denote our LGT membership that could be held up periodically during games on the off chance that someone is snapping a picture.  Something that won't get us thrown out of the ballpark.

Maybe we should sell LGT ball caps to identify posters and help support this web site. Not! Jay and Ryan have enough money already.

Great pictures, keep up the good work.  I was actually standing somewhere next to you when you were taking the pics of the players warming up and signing autographs, although I don't remember seeing anyone with a big digital camera (unless I thought you were a press guy, haha).
