LGT - RFK - LOL

Here is a picture of the Let's Go Tribe contingent at RFK Stadium today.  Despite the "Can't Do" attitude at RFK's Will Call window staff, I finally made it to section 519 and got to finally meet the guys behind the familiar names we've all come to know. Missing from the picture are Mauichuck and homelytourist who dropped by after the picture was taken.

I'm winging it here because I'm not good with names but in the front row is Turkmenbashi (white Indians jersey, blue hat) and his three friends (I'll let him introduce them).

In the second row (L to R) is APV, his brother, Jay (looking pensive), and Jay's wife (looking amused at Jay looking pensive).  If I've botched any names it's Eric Wedge's fault and he should be fired).

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
Sorry guys, but I am indeed supporting the Blue.  It boils down to this...

Here's what I have from Ohio State:
Bad memories of under-performing '90s football teams
Nothing

Here's what I have from Michigan:
Two degrees
A stack of paycheck stubs
The expectation of more paycheck stubs
Pretty good memories of 6 years and counting
Bad memories of under-performing '00s football/basketball teams
Good memories of being at the big house for a few of the greatest sporting events of my life

Growing up in the Cleveland area I was for a long while a Buckeye's fan.  But in truth, I was always a transplanted OSU fan having lived in Omaha for 5 years prior to Cleveland and having been indoctrinated into the Husker National mentality.  The end of the option-offense era has finally allowed me to fully lay to rest my Nebraska past and conveniently accept my Michigan fandom.  Cleveland forever, but M GO BLUE, too.

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
As an OSU alum (grad school) I sympathize with your plight.  I'm sure that your job at Wendy's is a great comfort to you as you watch the Buckeyes repeatedly crush those unfortunates in Ann Arbor who didn't make the cut at OSU.

Go Blue - and take the Nittany Lions with you!

But since the Tribe has given you so much, why not wear a Tribe hat? Afraid of flying bottles from unruly WAS fans?

by JulioBernazard on Jun 25, 2007 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
Mainly because I haven't gotten around to getting a new Tribe hat.  I've got one with Wahoo on it in the back of my car, but for a variety of reasons, I don't wear that one around anymore.  I probably would have gotten a new one for the weekend, but in trying to meet up with people I've never met before, saying I'll be the guy in the Tribe hat wouldn't have gotten me that far.  I'd guesstimate about 1/3 of the people in attendance were Tribe fans.

I'm telling you, that bad karma cost the Nats a 3 game sweep.  Because outside of Vic nuttin' it to center in the top of the 9th, we didn't do a damn thing to win any of those three games.

I wanted to punch the people at will-call. Jay hadn't left the tickets yet and I didn't know, but the woman at the window couldn't have possibly been  more annoyed that I asked her to check.

Heh, obviously I got the same lady you did and yes, she could have been more annoyed. When she couldn't find the tickets Jay left me under my name, she displayed quite an attitude when I asked her to look under Jay's name...

I might have seeded that lady with some bad sediments, as I think I beat both of you to the will call window and made her check my name twice (alternate spellings) and Jay's name.  She was not pleased.

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
I was at the game on Saturday, sitting way back in the dungeon that is section 400.  Good view, but it's kind of weird not being able to see the sky or anything under there.  Man, RFK is such a pit.  The new stadium there is going to be pretty nice though.

Anyone else have the urge to punch one of those RFK ushers?  They were getting pretty uppity with the Tribe fans hanging out around the dugout, especially after the game.

I've now seen parts of two games with four regulars ... you, John (homelytourist), Adam (APV) and Chuck.  And part or all of one game with four others ... Lefty, Turk, Andrew and Mike (zempf).  Plus, Chris (cajones) and I tried to catch a Phillies game, but it got rained out.

I'm happy to report that any lingering concern over "meeting weird internet people" has simply not materialized so far.  Although I was wondering after Saturday if I'm the only guy who knows how to get a date.

You should've made one of Turk's "friends" take the picture so you could've been in it.  We don't need a pic of a guy in a Nats jersey.  I think he probably could have figured out how to use a camera.

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
Yeah, I should have suggested that... that's actually my Nats jersey. I made him wear it because he's not a huge baseball fan but he decided to make the trek down to DC anyway. Actually, the other guy in the Tribe jersey is wearing my jersey as well. He's a buddy from DC, from when I lived there (which also explains why I own a Nats jersey).

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
I had a great time--don't get me wrong--but RFK totally sucks.

There aren't many concession stands, so I had to wait 20 minutes to get to the front of the line for the first beer, and when I finally made it I pulled out my credit card only to be told, "sorry, cash only."  So I had to so to go find the one ATM on that level, and then wait another 20 minutes for that (and swallow the $2.00 service charge--I hate those).

So I wasn't able to get nearly as drunk as I wanted.

Re: LGT - RFK - LOL
RFK is a letdown as a baseball stadium.  Knowing a new stadium was going to be built, the team didn't invest much in RFK to make it fan friendly. I'm hoping the new stadium is a gem.
