Indians resume interest in Percival

"Remember when the hottest rumor centered around which team would sign Troy Percival?  Percival ultimately signed with St. Louis, but the Indians were one of many teams rumored to be in on him.

Now comes word via MLB.com's Jim Molony that the Indians might "try to make a pitch" to acquire Percival from the Cardinals.  Percival has pitched 14.2 innings for the Cardinals, and he's been very sharp with a 3.75 K/BB.  I'm sure he'd be open to a role in the back of Cleveland's pen.

The Tribe would probably have even more interest in Jason Isringhausen, but he's said to be unavailable."

If the Indians have enough faith that Percival's arm is healthy then i think its an interesting option to look at.

I wonder what we would have to give up in return

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
Looks like Atlanta is making their pitch for Dotel.

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
I've also heard the Phils and the Mariners have thrown their hat into the ring too. Dotel is a hot commodity for all apparently.

Also, on Izzy, seems like he is indeed staying put in St. Louis: linky

"We've talked about it so many times," Wedge said, "but this is a special group."

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
That could seriously drive the price up if Atlanta has moved to all out "win now" mode

I'm calling a Braves/Tribe WS rematch, only this time, the good guys win.

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
I'll go ahead and freely speculate that this news will cause Shapiro to step up to the plate and avoid getting shutout on a reliever, one way or the other.  I think he makes a deal tonight.
Being a GM is a lot like playing Solitaire - Branch Rickey (as told to E5)

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
Hope so. It's not like he needs an elite guy to improve the team, just somebody better than Mastny.

But Mastny was born in Indonesia....

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
With the market the way it is for relief pitching thats the best Dayton Moore could do for KC? I'm sure the Dodgers were offering up players with at least more upside.

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
There are a lot of rumors floating, but the Braves one tends to involve Lillibridge and some high ceiling arms. It's not just Davies, apparently.

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
Seriously, how much could Percival cost? Did Mastny get sent down?

Re: Indians resume interest in Percival
Wow -Braves really spending to gear up for a run. Altho I think they had soured on Davies somewhat. I'd be really surprised if Lillibridge were included as well. That's their top 2 SS prospects gone in a couple days.

If Shapiro can't acquire Dotel, perhaps someone
like Rauch, who'd probably cost cheaper (though the Nationals' prices are supposedly high on just about all their trade possibilities, so maybe not) and has had a pretty solid season to this point, according to this link.

While his K rate is only 7.11, he might be solid in more of a Bob Howry type of way from 2005 when he had a 7.29 K rate.

Just a thought.  :-)

Re: If Shapiro can't acquire Dotel, perhaps someon
The more I look around, the more I like Rauch - a solid proven set-up guy.  He seems to be the type of guy Shapiro would go after (or at least should - under control next year as well).  And according to this WashPost blog he's definitely on the market likely to go someplace.  The write up gives a decent account of the Nat's situation.

Something in my gut tells me that this is the guy the Tribe is going to get.  Then again, that just might be the spanish rice I had for dinner.

Once again in 1st place in BOTH LGT Fantasy Leagues.

If the Indians do get Rauch, I suspect it won't
be until right around 4 PM, when hopefully, Bowden will come to his senses and take a more appropriate price for Rauch when he'll probably realize no one is going to pay the type of price he wants for Rauch (like Tigers' OF Cameron Maybin, who Bowden supposedly asked for.)

Just my 2 cents.  :-)
