Trade Rumors

Here are a couple of rumors that are floating around in the printed media.  Take them for what they are worth, a rumor.  But it is interesting to see that the FO is out there shopping for help.

Here is one from the Dallas Morning News that is a couple days old.

And here is one from the New York Post from today.

Re: Trade Rumors
Funniest part of all that is talk that the Yankees might be interested in Gagne. You're 12 games out of your division, 8.5 out of the wild card and 3 games under .500. Of course you should be trading your young prospects for a guy who'll just serve as a setup man to Rivera.

Re: Trade Rumors
I don't want Gagne. We have options from within, and I'd rather have another setup man (which Otsuka could serve as) rather than a replacement for Borowski (which Gagne would demand, and if not given would become a caner). Borowski may not be pretty ... but he is leading the league in saves, which is what we're paying him to do. If Cabrera can ever get it together - outings like last night may be just a mirage, but boy does he look great sometimes - or Perez can stay consistent, if Mujica can step up, or Adam Miller pulls a K-Rod, our bullpen may not be as weak as think. Matt Miller is always an option - stress that he's just an option and not a sure fire thing - and Fultz, who has been effective save for bases loaded situations, is coming back in the near future. I'd still prefer a bat. Dmitri Young? Just a thought. Ben and Franklin have been impressive, but I wouldn't rely on them for the long haul. But Michaels play has been very encouraging as the right side of the platoon, and Dellucci will likely improve his numbers when he returns.

Re: Trade Rumors
I would love Gagne, but the price for him is likely to be exorbitant, which I don't want us to pay.

Re: Trade Rumors
Basically my thoughts as well. The fact that the Rangers want Chamberlain for him is ridiculous. That means Lofgren and more for us.

Re: Trade Rumors
Maybe its me, but I really dislike trading prospects for bullpen help.  Really the big thing that would end the search would be for Cabrera to get hot.  If you have Betancourt, Perez and Cabrera all pitching well and dependable and Adam Miller busting onto the scene, that's nearly as good as the arrangement in '05 with Howry, Rhodes and Betancourt with Cabrera as the young up and comer.  Each pen having a Rolaids salesman at the end.

Re: Trade Rumors
Just says the Tigers & Indians are interested in Gagne and the Yankees would be reluctant to part with Kennedy or Chamberlain for him, plus Hughes is completely off-limits. If the Rangers are asking for Hughes (which would translate to Miller for us), I say we tell them to go screw & stay happy with what we've got.

Re: Trade Rumors
Thanks for the re-cap.  Hughes or Miller for a guy who's under contract for, what? 5 months?  That is nuts.

Re: Trade Rumors
I doubt they actually asked for Hughes. I think they were just establishing that Hughes was not even going to be talked about in any trade discussion.

Re: Trade Rumors
No on trading anything of value for bullpen help. I wouldn't mind a trade for a big corner bat. Griffey would help us I think.

Gagne= not worth it
There's no way I'd give up a good starting pitching prospect for a closer with arm history signed to a short contract, one year with an option right? Especially considering that we have a good closer now. It's not worth it in any sense.

Though I think we might be able to get away with a package including some of the following Jason Stanford, Gutz, and Mulhern for Gagne.

I think the following players are our best trading chips.

Re: Trade Rumors
I think it was Kurkjain on BBTN a few days ago that said Texas is asking for a big time prospect in return for Gagne. He then said one "insider" told him they'd get it because there's so many teams after him. Pass on Gagne.

You guys will think I'm crazy, but I'm aiming low...gimme like Salomon Torres for Nixon, Slocum, and Luna (i.e. very little). Torres isn't great, but he's cheap, and his value is really low. Plus, throwing in Trot would even out the salaries for 2007, and then we'd owe Torres ~$4 million in 2008 (risky, but it's basically the same deal we gave Oldberto this year).

Re: Trade Rumors
I don't think that its a crazy idea, though I actually think a deal without Luna involved has a better chance of happening than with him. He sucks.

We have to get something out of F-Cab this year, He's basically taking up a spot and is rarely used because he's been so unreliable. I think we need one more reliable are in the pen. I thought we had that up until Foulke retired, we've done ok without it, but the depth (back end guys) isn't there, an injury hits and we could be blowing alot of late games. One more guy to the pen would be nice, though not at any real (i.e. top prospect) cost. If we can't find anyone than I'll pass, focus on spending prospects on a power hitting first baseman or corner outfielder.

Here's the article on indians.com regarding Wedge's and Shapiro's discussions on adding a reliever and a left-hand bat.

Re: Trade Rumors
haha. Sorry, not too pricey and a player from the bargin bin, meaning he wont have to break the bank to acquire him.

Re: Trade Rumors
we reportedly did have an interest in him this offseason as a FA. So it does make sense. The one team we'd trade in the division with right now is probably KC.

Re: Trade Rumors
I'm confused, are "not too pricey" and "a player from the bargain bin" and "he won't have to break the bank" different from each other in any way?
