STO Post Game - Pie Video

This season because of the Extra Innings/Direct TV Debacle, my cable company, Cablevision, didn't get the E/I Package until June.  (Of course, it was offered at the full-regular season price eventhough more than one fifth of the season had already gone by.  Thank you, Mr. Dolan.) By that time, I'd gone with XM and Gameday Audio to get the games.

The one thing I have missed is the STO post-game interviews and the pies in the face of the players.

Is there a repository of these events somewhere on the vast and useful thing we call the internet?

If so, where?  If not, can someone create one?

It would be greatly appreciated by video-challenged fans like me!

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
Sorry to hear about your particular E.I. debacle, but for what it's worth, the issue seems to be resolved for several years to come.

You might like to know, however, that E.I. subscribers get the exact same feed as MLB.tv subscribers, so you wouldn't be seeing the pie either way.

As far as I know, the only way to get out-of-market pie is to subscribe to the regional sports networks package, which includes STO, and which is only available through DirecTV.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
This and the NFL Network (and I suppose the Big Ten network) are the only reasons I'm sticking with DirecTV.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
I love the fact that we both typed 'DirecTV' in the proper spelling/upper and lowercase format.

I have a hell of a time remembering 'TiVo'.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
My problem with Direct TV (No I won't bother spelling it that way) is that I have my phone and internet with Cablevision too.  I'm not giving up that bundle just to get these extras.

Too bad STO hasn't thought to make the post game interviews avaialable over the web.  My only hope is that the Indians go all the way this year(for this, and other obvious reasons) because this is surely fodder for the incessant WS pregame shows.

Thanks, the internet is a wonderful thing.  Let's all send Al Gore a thank-you note for inventing it.

My bad, Ryan - broke out the old joke about the internet, and forgot it may be taken badly by others.  I'll refrain from this sort of diversion in the future.

It would be a big mistake for anyone to assume that the readership here is predominantly "red" or "blue."  What I can guarantee is that whatever kind of comment someone wants to make, there will be a lot of people who don't take it well.

I'd like to comment on your comment, but I won't.

OK, silly enough.  I'm done!

Man, do I hate those red and blue labels the media has foisted upon the country as a sort of political shorthand.

Most people, when you get down to it, are some varying shade of purple.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
The only RED and BLUE we should really worry about around here are the colors on the Indians uniforms.  It's nice to see them peacefully co-existing there, isn't it?

Hmm... I see nothing on the indians.com Shop or even on eBay. I'll have to take a run up to the Jake or something.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
Actually the online merchandising is run through MLB while the Indians themselves decide what goes in the team shops.  So discrepancies are quite common.

Shoot. Wish I was anywhere near that area. As it is, I'm on the verge of buying one of those T-shirt jerseys (of the Fausto variety).

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
I spoke to someone at the team shop in Akron.  He confirmed that they have it and that it (and a lot of other merchandise) is not available on the web.

Are the rally pie shits exclusive to the team shops, or can they be bought at other local merchants?  I'd like to find a rally pie shirt closer to Canton so my mother can buy one for me.

Any suggestions?

Did you guys see the PD article about fans being pizzed that the team shop carries Yanks merch?

http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/08/indians_selling_out_to_the_ene.html

I think it's OK if the Indians keep some of the revenue. Or does it all go into the MLB kitty?

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
That is pretty nauseating, money maker or not. I wonder if they were just stocked with NYY crap because they were in town? Does the team shop do that with all visiting teams?

I know I've looked for Indians stuff in Oakland, DC, and maybe a couple of other places and never seen it. I was looking more out of curiosity than anything else.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
Yeah, I went into a Nationals/DC sports store yesterday and they had only Washington stuff, except for the stack of Yankee hats. Disgusting, really.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
According to the article, it would seem that other teams do not do this.  Imagine trying to buy a Browns sweatshirt at Heinz Field or a Yankee hat at Fenway.  You may not make it out of the store alive.

After reading the story, I'm torn.  I know it's making money for the Tribe (and not the other team), so that's a good thing.  But there have got to be other ways to make $$$.  In the article, the rep for the team said they've been doing it for years.  That doesn't make it right.  Besides, non-Indians gear was probably the only thing they could sell there back in the 70's.

Jerry Seinfeld had a good bit about sports fans and the fact that we're really rooting for the uniforms rather than the players in them.  If that's true, I think the team owes the fans some respect by not selling out to earn what it seems to admit is a small portion of its profits.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
They can't possibly make enough money on this to justify it.  I'd love to see the sales numbers.

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
I was at the mall yesterday and asked someone working at the team shop.  He was actually pretty open about it: about $10,000 per game for the weekend, just on Yankees stuff.  This particular team shop didn't even sell any New York gear, so I assume most of that comes from the ballpark.  Why someone visiting from New York would already be wearing Yankee stuff is beyond me, which brings up a disturbing image of Clevelanders sporting pinstripes.

by nickjs21 on Aug 17, 2007 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: STO Post Game - Pie Video
$30K (probably gross) hardly seems enough to justify the loss of goodwill from Indians fans, who are likely to be buying an exponentially higher amount of stuff.

Anyother GREAT business decision there folks.

Only New York, and only when they come to town.  On a much smaller degree I've seen some Red Sox stuff.
