M's call off Vizquel deal
Shortstop's knee fails examination by team doctors
By JOHN HICKEY
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
All that stood between Omar Vizquel and a return to the Mariners was passing a physical examination.
The veteran shortstop has spent 10 years with Cleveland, but lives in the Seattle area in the off-season and was only willing to leave the Indians if he could finish his career with the Mariners, with whom he played his first five big league seasons.
That will not happen.
A deal was in place to bring Vizquel back to Seattle, with Carlos Guillen going to Cleveland, but it unraveled over the soundness of his right knee. He failed the physical and the deal apparently is dead.
He's your opportunity to vent about something else other than Trot Nixon.
