Miguel Cairo!!!

I just read that he was designated for assignment by the Yankees.  Does anyone else think this would be a great pick up for the utility guy we have been waiting for?  I think this would be amazing.

He can play every infield position and he has a lot of postseason experience.  Also, keep in mind we have an upcoming series against the Yankees.  How exciting would that be if he came back against them in a Tribe uniform?!?!?!  Also, no one would want to beat the Yankees more for a playoff birth than him.

What do you all think?  Also, what are the chances of us landing him?

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
You don't really "land" Miguel Cairo. You end up with him. You hope for some production from him. You look for veteran consistency from him. You don't land him.

I don't know why but that really made me laugh.  BTW, is there anyone out there who might want to "land" Trot?

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
Hey, can we really afford all these luxuries, what with Russell Branyan coming in already?  Be realistic here.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
Your reasons for acquiring him are as follows:

Can play every infield position
Granted.

Has a lot of postseason experience
Irrelevant, to a degree.  61 at-bats.

How exciting would that be if he came back against them in a Tribe uniform?!?!?!
A good storyline does not make a good business move.  Also, I don't think this is really going to grab headlines.

No one would want to beat the Yankees more for a playoff birth than him
Would also seem to be irrelevant.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
It's a little late; to ensure a playoff birth, most of the important work needs to be done in January.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
Yea like signing key free agents; Delluci, Nixon, R. Hernandez and Fultz all key players that have really made a difference.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
meh, I'll give you this one (sort of).  I was most in favor of the Dellucci signing, and the verdict is stlil out on him.  Fultz has, when healthy, been about what I expected.
I figure Shapiro'll refine his approach to FA for future offseasons.

But, what'd you expect?  Dice-K?  Should he have given Gagne a no trade clause and 10 mil for the hell of it?

Uhm, yeah, right, I suppose...

Actually I was just poking fun at the oft-used misspelling of "berth"...you see, January is nine months before...oh, never mind.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
Why would we pick up Cairo when we just brought up Astrocab?

This thread is a sense-free zone, so I'd suggest taking these thoughts elsewhere.

That was what got me--I never thought I would see "!!!"-level excitement about Miguel Cairo, of all people.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
WOW!!!  I didnt think it was that bad a suggestion.  Is he that bad to all of you?

I am a huge follower of baseball and I live in NY.  I think Cairo has been a great UTIL guy over the years.

It's not that bad of an idea, it's just not something we're in any way likely to do.

Re: Miguel Cairo!!!
I like the idea just as much as giving As-Cab ABs at a point too early in his development, if Cairo comes cheap.
