Mulder to be a free agent after buyout
Is Mulder a possible Kevin Millwood type signing? He hasn't won a game in two years due to recurring shoulder injuries, but if the Indians think he can be healthy he could give us some good value on a one year deal. Then again, we are pretty well stocked with lefties. Thoughts?

1) I’m glad St. Louis “won” the bidding war with Cleveland for Mulder’s services a couple years ago.
2) As for next year, it sounds like Mulder’s not yet healthy. If the Indians need a starter, I think they want a guy ready from April 1. And even if healthy, I’m not sure how I feel about Mulder back in the AL with less stuff. Actually, I am sure how I feel about it…and it’s not good.
Can we make the phrase “Kevin Millwood-type signing” akin to swearing in a non-game thread?

my biggest pet peave about this is that people don’t like the kevin millwood type signings unless the guy comes in a performs like kevin millwood did. how come no one calls it a jason bere type signing?
Exactly. It implies the FA in question is expected to perform at 2005 Millwood-like levels and if not, will be detested accordingly as another example of Dolan trying to win on the cheap and failing.

Well. Ok, then. Now that i’ve been thoroughly picked apart allow me to clarify a bit. I realize i’m not a part of the inner circle, and with good reason. However, i am referencing Millwood only because of the obvious similarities between the two “potential” deals. The Indians would never sign a Mark Mulder at his peak of health and performance, but they may be inclined to do so on a one year deal coming off of injury if they felt it could help the team. These one-year deals sometimes pan out (Millwood) and sometimes do not (Gonzales part II). How would a potential signing of Mulder not be compared to the Millwood signing? Maybe this is a bit sensitive of me, but using that phrase does not make me a Dolan basher, a retard, or someone expecting Mulder to lead the league in ERA next year.
Now, i do understand the need to protect the integrity of the site and so on. I really do. But come on, it’s not like i wrote “MULDER=CHAMPIONSHIP, THE 2ND CUMMING Of MILLSWOOD!!!!” Or maybe i just feel for all the poor saps who have tried to break into the incredibly high level of discourse on this blog and been ripped apart. That could definitely be it.
Alright, good talk.

Actually, the point sailed over you.
I’ll only speak for myself in that I think what we’re all saying is that EVERY one-year deal has the word “Millwood” in there. Every. One. We understand what a Millwood-type signing is.
Steel Nick
I’m going to start referring to 10-year, $275 million contracts as an Alex Rodriguez-type signing.

I’m going to start suggesting teams move thier top sluggers into the leadoff spot to be a grady sizemore style leadoff hitter, just to drive you batty.
Haha — I hope you do. That actually would be a good analogy, though.

that’s the point. calling it a millwood type deal implies that you hope this is one you’ve discovered that could be a similarly successful coup.
Right. It may just seem like semantics, but it grates on you when you hear it over and over with this type of thinking usually implied. I mean no disrespect to you specifically, TVG, and I didn’t mean for my comment to come off that way. Your proposition is certainly valid, it’s just the words that have achieved nails-on-the-chalkboard status.

Overreaction + little sleep + too much sarcasm + a barely repressed deep inner desire to actually title this "MULDER=CHAMPIONSHIP, THE 2ND CUMMING Of MILLSWOOD!!!!" = too much. Sorry, everybody. Criticism generally warranted. Go Tribe.

Also!
I realize i’m not a part of the inner circle
can we get off this “you’re picking on me because i’m not andrew” routine? seems like people that have been around a while are tossing that sob story out there now. nobody actually does that, really. they attack what you say, not what your screen name is, if you have to call it attacking (which it isn’t). if you’re new or old and use the phrase “scare crow” or “millwood-type” in the near future you will inderectly contribute to its growing over and mis use here and i shall be annoyed.

Having watched a good bit of Mulder trying to pitch for St. Louis, I suspect he’d be more of a Juan Gonzales-type signing.
TVG was mentally handicapped today. So in some ways, yes.
