Cubs trade for Marlins' reliever Gregg
Does this mean that Kerry Wood is done in Chicago?

I’ll add what I mentioned in the other thread. Ceda was rumored to be one of the pieces in a potential Peavy deal, so this may indicate that the Braves are closing in.
This to me also does indicate that the Cubs are preparing for life without Wood.
…preparing for life without Wood.
they have pills for that, now.

If I may be so silly to ask, how does Ceda, now the property of the Marlins, help the Braves obtain Peavy? Is Florida the middle man for prospects for the Braves?
I agree . My first thought was Wood is gone . Seems like a cheap but fair trade for Gregg. Anyone know the scouting report on this prospect.
Also I want to mention that I’m posting this via blackberry while donating blood. Hardcore I know.
According to Kevin Goldstein at Baseball Prospectus, he’s got a 94-98 fastball, and + slider with heavy tilt.
Quite the return for a mediocre reliever.

Someone—Rotoworld?—predicted he could make a fast ascent and light it up (in a good way) for the big league club by August.
Steel Nick
i read bleedcubbieblue as well and they are pretty angry about the trade over there.
ceda is known as a high-ceiling relief prospect. he is not seen as an SP.
however, most people at bcb think that ceda could have filled gregg’s role in the pen as early as this year. the cubs are expected to have gregg in the 7/8 innings in front of marmol. if marmol can’t handle the 9th (no one expects that) then gregg is insurance.
Hendry apparently has said Wood won’t be back with the Cubs next year.
we’ve gotta land a decent closer between Wood and Hoffman.
Here’s a question though. Which player do you prefer?
i don’t know. give me the list of the decent closers between wood and hoffman.

Hoffman, just because his contract would be shorter.
Wood’s would be too long
Could you imabine the game threads if Wood got to pitch to Fasano … priceless!!!

Do we really think anyone is going to give Wood 3+ years?
I translate Hendry ‘s comments as "I can see why you want a multiyear deal, Kerry, because you’re made of glass, but we are not that stupid. But some team will be."
Please, no team be that stupid.
I’d give him two years with a team option for the third year

I might also be willing to allow Wood to opt out/void the team option if he reaches certain bench marks.
Unfortunately, for us, I forsee Wood getting three years guranteed. But hey, I like Wood so good for him.

Lots of people can give wood for 3+ years, you just have to be creative.
Wait, what are we talking about again?
But some are too effete for such things…

Is it just me or is there almost zero interest in Ben Sheets thus far? His market seems to be shrinking faster than K-rod’s.
It’s just you; I don’t think free agents can start signing till 11/15 or thereabouts.
DISCLAIMER: I may be bitter.
It has been quiet. But the market works in mysterious ways. As soon as a guy is seen as a cheap option, all it takes is two competing teams to drive his price back up to par. All the starters will wait for CC to sign. That watch begins this weekend.
Yes, but if CC is waiting for Burnett and Lowe to sign and Burnett and Lowe are waiting for CC to sign in order to set their value appropriately, we’ll have gridlock. Human sacrifice. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.
