here we go. the sting from missing out on both ceda and gregg is still so fresh and now this….

by Brick. on Nov 13, 2008 3:58 PM EST reply actions

the truth is that the white sox would never trade swisher to us

by Roger Dorn on Nov 13, 2008 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

that won’t stop people.

For the second season in a row.

The reality here is that trades will be consumated involving every player we’ve ever mentioned. And the Indians won’t be involved in any of them. So, for example, if you didn’t want the Indians to trade for Brad Hennesey, you should make sure you include it in a comment soon, as I just did.

Conversely, perhaps you think the Indians would be better with name redacted at second base. He would immediately be traded to the White Sox.

David Eckstein is so good you guys.

His story is less inspriational than Darin Erstad’s however.

Raul Ibanez. Bad defensive players. Horrible hitters. Crappy pitchers.

There, I think we’ve covered it.

over at South Side Sox, their post says:

“Up to 5 players could be involved, according to radio reports”

Hate to see a Buckeye end up in Yankee-ville ….

But with Griffey gone, and now Swisher, aren’t the WSox a player short in the OF? Not to mention Crede too?

by talonk on Nov 13, 2008 3:59 PM EST reply actions

maybe they plan on moving Quentin to CF.

by rolub on Nov 13, 2008 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

They intend to trade Dye, so we’ll see what that lands them.

oh, man.

Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

Ok, names finally released here

Swisher and minor league pitcher Kanekoa Texeira to Yankees for Wlison Betemit and minor league pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez

That looks very lopsided in the Yankees favor if you aske me.

by talonk on Nov 13, 2008 4:20 PM EST reply actions

Jhonny? Must have been a typo on his birth certificate.

On behalf of the rest of the AL Central, I’d like to thank Kenny Williams for making this trade.

by Peter Bendix on Nov 13, 2008 5:28 PM EST reply actions

I am a fan of KW, but I don’t get this trade at all. Selling low on Swisher for an emergency starter and a utility player?

by ClarkM on Nov 13, 2008 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know, I think Betemit looks like a pretty useful player. Wouldn’t mind plugging in a league-average hitter at third base for reasonable dollars.

by Jay on Nov 13, 2008 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

Now that the Yanks have obtained a Texeira, does this take the Yanks out of the other Texeira sweepstakes?

If so, looks like they will be focusing on CC, et al.

by talonk on Nov 13, 2008 6:05 PM EST reply actions

I’m assuming they aren’t related—condidering this fellow’s first name—which I find odd.

Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

by westbrook on Nov 13, 2008 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

I was joking about the name of course, but them obtaining Swisher alleviates a need for a 1B considering they have Matsui, Damon, Melky, and Nady already in the OF. I know Swisher could end up out there as well …..but I am assuming this move means he’ll play 1B primarily.

by talonk on Nov 13, 2008 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

I doubt very much they acquired Swisher to play 1B.

by Jay on Nov 13, 2008 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

On ESPN Jayson Stark said the Yankees intend for Swish to be their starting 1B so they can focus on signing CC and put Tex on the backburner.

I’m skeptical personally, but what the hell are they going to do with all of those OF if they sign Tex?

by world dictator on Nov 13, 2008 11:31 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t see Damon really being able to play a full season in the outfield, IMO.

Hello WD,

I read (from Yahoo Sports; I’m not sure if they took that info. from the AP or where), that if the Yankees sign Tex, they could move Swisher to RF – currently, Abreu is NOT signed. That doesn’t mean the Yankees won’t resign him, but as of right now, Abreu is not currently scheduled to be the Yankees’ RF in 2009. They also mentioned that either Swisher or Nady could play RF.

As a result, I think they have those two, Cabrera, and Damon currently scheduled to be in their OF – one could either play part-time (Damon would seem the most likely) or be the DH, since Giambi is not currently a Yankee for 2009 either. Therefore, I don’t think there is an overabundance of OFers that they can’t handle at this point, and of course, Teixeira is not a Yankee yet, so 1B is still an option for Swisher at this point, further reducing that OF pile.

Just my 2 cents.

The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

by indiansfan on Nov 14, 2008 12:12 AM EST up reply actions

One theory is that the Yankees will just offer Abreu arbitration — a one-year deal — and leave it at that.

I don’t see their outfield as all that crowded. I see a few guys who don’t necessarily command an everyday job at this point.

by Jay on Nov 15, 2008 1:04 AM EST up reply actions

There’s a difference in spelling.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Nov 13, 2008 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

This seems pretty terrible.

South Side Sox’ comments are very hard to read. I’m glad we’re not allowed to curse.

by afh4 on Nov 13, 2008 8:57 PM EST reply actions

I believe in KW. Every time we saw Swisher play against Cleveland he looked worse than the time before.

That being said, he is probably an upgrade over the Ghost of Melky Cabrera.

by Toxicadam on Nov 13, 2008 11:03 PM EST reply actions

Yeah but even if Swish is done are these guys from the Yankees worth the guys who went to Oakland?

by afh4 on Nov 13, 2008 11:12 PM EST up reply actions

Your right, I hate any move that makes Billy Beane look like a genius.

by Toxicadam on Nov 13, 2008 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

It’s kind of pointless to sell so low on him unless you really needed the $5 million.
