Cliff Lee captures IBA Cy Young
Surprising no one, Cliff Lee was named the AL Cy Young winner by fans voting in the 17th annual Internet Baseball Awards. Over 75 percent of voters put Lee in the top spot of their ballots, while 98 percent him in the first or second spot.
In a shining example of the wisdom of the masses, the IBAs have a proud history of making almost no totally asinine picks. This stands in stark contrast with the "real" awards, which are voted on by the newspaper beat writers of the Baseball Writers Association of America, and which include at least one totally asinine, retrograde, idiotic or simply indefensible pick every single year.
Grady Sizemore finished third in the AL IBA MVP balloting, while Lee finished fifth for that award. Just don't ask me who won.

Pretty solid lists, though Ervin Santana should’ve been ahead of K-Rod and Lester. I just can’t decide on the MVP award though, I would’ve gone with Mauer.

Ewwwwww. You’re making me not want to click that link.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

Count me among the non New England admirers of the MVP award winner. That young man has a heart the size of Cleveland.

And a bald spot the size of the Louisiana Purchase.
He’s good. So is Mauer. I’ll say nothing more of the matter.

Indefensible MVP Vote. Period. He was the 3rd best guy on his team.
Don't be stupid. PUT IN MELOAN.

I don’t think that’s true. Taking position and quality of defense into account, I think he was the most productive player on the Red Sox.

How do you say that? Most “smart” baseball writers who I’ve read chose either him or Mauer (with Sizemore thrown in the discussion). You may not like the guy, but you can’t discount his value. A quality second baseman who hits like he does is extremely valuable.

If we’re going to take position and quality of defense into account, you can not vote for anyone buy Grady (121 RC, excellent in CF).
Youkilis, playing 1B and 3B, created 121 runs. PEDroia created 108 runs. That’s a difference of 11%. While 2B is a more difficult position to field, it isn’t like PEDroia is setting the world on fire. He had a RZR of 826, 4th out of the nine qualifiers in the AL. FWIW, Roberts was better defensively and created 104 runs.
As for Youkilis, he was perfectly in the middle of all 1B and, had he qualified for 3B (he was only there ~250 innings) he would’ve been dead in the middle there as well.
I just don’t see how you can make the case for PEDroia when these two players were clearly superior, and we haven’t even talked about Mauer yet.
Don't be stupid. PUT IN MELOAN.

It probably doesn’t make sense to have to give this award to only one player.
