Home Field for Tiebreaker Game Rule Change
GMs are considering getting rid of coin flips to determine who gets the home field in the event of a tiebreaker game. Instead, head-to-head record would be used.

Makes so much sense that one wonders why the coin-flip rule has been around for so long. Was it always a coin-flip? I know there’s been tiebreaker games going back at least 60 years (Indians/Red Sox in 1948).

Apparently it was a scheduling thing. Head-to-head could change on the last day of the season. The GM’s are now saying that they think they can handle it logistically.

Now that I think about it, it probably had more to do with ticketing (printing and selling) than anything.

I like that the game gradually improves itself.
