I haven’t read the article yet, but I have to imagine Cot’s and B-Ref are two of any baseball writer’s greatest resources.

They are for me, but the beat writers still rely on media guides, I would bet, and they only consider contract issues when a team official takes the time to explain something to them.

I once e-mailed Jeff @ Cot’s asking him if he would be able to pull off a list of pitchers who had signed 5+ year contract when thinking about the CC thing. He said that his spreadsheets weren’t really set up like that, but he’d see what he could pull together.
Not long after, he sent a list of players he remembered getting more than 5 years and over the course of a few e-mails we thought we compiled a pretty exhaustive list.
It was a tremendously nice thing for him to do for someone he didn’t know from Adam.
Nice to see him getting some well deserved recognition for the work he does.

Circleoftrusts?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

I remember the CWS part. What did a guy named Phelps have to do with it?

I figured that’s what it was — why was it relevant to us? Was he the one people were excited to watch bc we drafted him?

That’s the reason it got fanshotted, by an overzealous individual who did not consider the ambiguous headline.

Yeah. those are only cool when the ambiguity is intentional.

Yeah, but if we clicked on a fanshot expecting to weigh in about the consequences of Josh Phelps being traded to the White Sox, well, maybe we’re the overzealous ones? Maybe we’ve got problems??
It’s comical that there’s any ambiguity about this at all. We’re obsessed.
I mean, Josh Phelps.

I actually remember thinking, absent logic, that it was our draft pick that had somehow been moved to the White Sox. Not that it makes any sense.

I don’t do that much thinking. If there’s a fanshot with comments, I’m clicking, even if it’s titled something like O/T Dancing W/ Stars thread.
I can think of some titles that I won’t click on, but they’re all against the groundrules. Any groundrules.

Yeah, this is all about the 3 seconds (or longer if you still use dialup) of panic between seeing, clicking and reading more.
