And also Adam Dunn is pretty sweet. I’m picture Dunn and Jhonny at the corners with Asdrubal and Valbuena/Carroll up the middle.

Just in case you’re too lazy to click one step further,
the tribe didn’t lose anyone in the major league portion, or pick anyone.
which is to say, our best rule 5 draft ever!

Looks that way.
Welcome back Jordan Brown; we really really wanted you here all along. You’re our #1 guy!
I could be mistaken, but he will be eligible in the minor league portion.

And by the way, a sarcastic Great Job to mlb.com for the Rule 5 draft tracker. MLBAM is usually top notch, but that was just horrible. Still waiting for any minor league results, and the major league results just popped up all at once after everything was done.
And only the first two player were linked.
You are mistaken. Just as major league (40-man) roster players cannot be drafted in the major league phase, Triple-A roster players cannot be taken in the Triple-A phase, and so on. I believe there are 28 Triple-A roster spots, more than enough for the organization to protect every single prospect who is even remotely significant. (Often a player will be assigned to Triple-A just for the Rule 5 draft, then moved back to Double-A or Single-A afterward.)
To further explain, the minor league phase is simply not intended to give significant opportunities to prospects or for competitive balance, it’s just to help teams have more balanced minor league rosters. We lost two guys who hadn’t even made it to Lake County and weren’t likely to this year, either.
That’s a shame, and I’m a little surprised. I was rooting for him to be taken and to get a chance with someone, like I did for Ryan Mulhern before him.
Who knows, maybe we’ll need him.

My current “hometown” team is the Jr. Indians. I mean the Nationals. It’s as close as I can get to the Tribe. I wanted them one step closer…
No, really, I hope I’m right that he’s a superfluous asset. I like Aubrey better in the same rol, but Aubrey’s Aubrey. Can play LF again?
I mean, it’s really a longshot, but you’re probably right

Looking at Dunn’s numbers, I wonder if he’s projected to hit 40 home runs in 2009?

Dunn is not coming to the Indians guys. There’s a zero pecent chance barring any significant events.
Even if the market for Dunn were at an all time low, Dunn could easily sign a one year deal for far more than we can afford.
I’d love to get him, but it ain’t happening.

Does signing Adam Dunn count as a significant event?

i’ve never stated that I want him. Just doing some research if I’m gonna read these posts.
Who hits exactly 40 HRs four years in a row? What a weirdo. Maybe OCD?
by PatBordersHelmet on Dec 11, 2008 1:22 PM EST up reply actions
James has him projected at 42 and Marcel at 32. Hopefully he can overcome his disorder. Can someone offer more than anecdotal evidence to why we cannot get Dunn? I am trying not to get my hopes up here.
32! He hit 40 for the last four years and 46 before that. I’ve never been a big Dunn watcher, but now I’m going to obsessed with his HR numbers this season.

Not yet. I’m not digging all those strikeouts.

I’m not saying we will but I don’t understand why not. There’s no significant roster roadblocks for playing time (Garko you suck). The market appears to be extremely meh towards him. Seems like a good opportunity for Shapiro to swoop in, sign a short deal, and let Dunn get back on the market when it’s better for him.

We have somewhere between $7 and $10 million left, probably closer to $7, and I think Dunn can at least get $10 to $13 despite where the market is now. I expect the Nats to go after him hard once they lose out on Tex.
Not to mention, I’m sure Dunn would prefer to stay in the easier NL league where he’s familiar with the pitchers if he does in fact sign a one year deal.
Shapiro has also said he’d still like to improve the middle infield for the major league team this year and/or acquire a starting pitcher.

Just wondering, but where is everyone getting this “$10 million left” idea? Like we couldn’t go an extra few mil for a guy like Dunn?

The “we could always stretch an extra few million to sign…” logic is infintely regressive. Where does it end? Maybe if Cleveland were in a bigger market or we had a more aggressive free spending GM I might buy this. But the fact is we don’t. We have the exact opposite. A methodical, financially disciplined GM who doesn’t splurge on free agents unless they’re willing to sign on his terms. Dunn’s stock might have fallen but I question whether it has fallen to the point where Shapiro is willing to give Dunn the type of contract he demands.
Everything in Shapiro’s history and recent comments says signing Dunn is highly unlikely. This is of course on top of the several reasons why I doubt Dunn would choose Cleveland, that I listed above.
Btw, I’m pretty sure the amount we have left to spend is closer to $7 million.
by world dictator on Dec 11, 2008 4:26 PM EST up reply actions
Where does it end?
After we sign an undervalued guy like Dunn who will significantly upgrade the offense.

And I think you’re guessing, and have no more information than Turk does. And you’re guessing about the NL. I bet Dunn is aware of the designated hitter spot.
I’m making an educated fact based on the information available to me.
That being said, in order for Dunn to sign a lot of different things have to move in our direction both internally and based on other teams.
More importantly, the absence of proof doesn’t prove a statement true and “I really really hope so” doesn’t increase our payroll.

I’m making an educated fact
I really need to learn how to do that.

Hello dgcambridge,
If you’re referring to the DH spot luring Dunn to the AL, that’s a possibility.
However, if you’re referring to the DH spot as a reason why the Indians might sign Dunn, I don’t think that’s applicable, being that the DH spot is Pronk’s to lose, unless you want to rotate Dunn inbetween DH/1B/LF.
Just my 2 cents.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
Well, at 6’3" he should be able to snag some under the basket.
