No Non-Tenders for Cleveland
No surprises, as the Indians only had one arbitration-eligible player (Shoppach), and they weren't about to non-tender him. In past years, the Indians have non-tendered a marginal player to get him off their 40-man roster, but they didn't do that either. So the roster still stands at 39.

Of those non-tendered by other clubs, Ty Wiggington would probably be the most interesting to the Indians. He can hit for power, primary position is third but can play second and the outfield.
My concern is that he, like Casey Blake, doesn’t play 3B so much as he’s assigned to stand there during the defensive portion of the inning. If the Indians think Hodge’s defense will allow him to play 3B, then not shifting Peralta makes sense. But can the Indians really compete with Hodges/Peralta on the same side of the infield? Not that Valbuena is ready, but I would rather see the Peralta/Cabrera shift occur this offseason and let Indians toy with 2B for 2009.
His BA/RISP from last season reminds me of a young Casey Blake…. sign me up. In actuality, he would be an upgrade over Marte offensively, but certainly is pretty bad with the glove at third (well range anyways). On a one year deal though, seems like a nice idea if nothing else is found, because of the low cost/risk involved.
I agree with everyone above. Ty Wiggington is definetely someone I think we should look at acquiring. But I wonder if a signing a player like Crede to a one year deal isn’t more appealing to the Indians because of Hodges and Valbuena in Colombus.
Of course, if we sign Wiggington to a multiyear deal and Hodges and/or Valbuena are hitting, then that’s a depth problem I’m willing to have.
