Javier Vazquez leaving AL Central for Braves?

I basically added the question mark because it's still just a "baseball source" that has told Gammons.

Good news for the Tribe, bad news for me having him on my AL-only fantasy team for a 3rd straight year.

I don’t know a great deal about the White Sox situation but would this indicate they don’t consider themselves legitimate contenders in 2009? I mean I don’t personally consider them contenders but this would seem to further deprive an already pitching-starved team.

Pitching starved team? Are we talking about the White Sox, the team that was tied for 4th in the league in ERA+ last year. It’s hard to make much of this trade, especially when there seems to be some confusion about who’s in it, and no details on whether money is being exchanged.

See? I said I didn’t know much … that’s what I get for going on my impressions

The way I see it they have

Danks
Floyd
Buehrle
Contreras (out until May if I’m not mistaken)

with Jeff Marquez (from the Swisher deal) offering no better than a Zach Jackson option. Clayton Richard and Lance Broadway should also be in the rotation mix.

I would expect them to either sign a veteran or look for a starter in return for Dye.

This doesn’t mean much, but Vazquez starts were one of the only things I would sit through a Harrelson-called game to watch whenever the Sox were on EI. I like seeing guys strike out.

Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that catching prospect Tyler Flowers is the key guy going from Atlanta to Chicago (along with others).

How is he considered as a peer to Carlos Santana, I wonder? Flowers appears to be a few months younger and at least put up somewhat comparable hitting stats in High A.

Flowers is being traded at the height of his hype. He’s just coming off a boffo AFL stint where he cranked out a lot of homers on the hitting-happy environs. Braves keep getting a lot of mileage from trading catching prospects since McCann established himself.

Good deal for the Bravos – they needed a durable innings eater to stabilize a rotation, just like we do, and had the prospect depth to get him.

Flowers puts on the gear and crouches behind the plate every game, but nobody expects him to be a catcher in the bigs. Think Ryan Garko with more bat. Or Max Ramirez with less defense.
