I agree we do not need to sign Blake to a three year contract like the one we did with Dellucci, it is time for the team to quit signing rehab and past their prime players. We need to either sign a good FA in his prime or play the kids. I’m tired of us signing the Danny Graves, Todd Hollandsworths, Trot Nixon, Roberto Hernandez just to name a few. If we are going spend the money on crap player, save it, spend it on better high school and college scouts as we really suck in that area.

I seriously doubt there were any negotiations with Shapiro beyond “If your multi-year things fall through and you want to come back for a year, then we’ll talk” type thing.

ok, with Hudson apparently off the table and none of the third base free agents very palatable, I’m on the Trade for Adrian Beltre bandwagon. Peralta’s range shouldn’t be as much of an issue with Beltre and Cabrera on either side of him.
I know it’s not going to happen, but has anybody else thought about how ridiculously high Peralta’s trade value could be right now?

Way ahead of you buddy. I wanted to include Shoppach and Jhonny in a trade of Peavy. Obvious complications in that one regarding Peavy’s no trade clause, but I think the Padres would do a Perlata, Shoppach, Huff, Gutz trade. Payroll might have been an issue for Towers, but I think its a good trade for San Diego.
But yeah, not going to happen.

That’s WAAAAAAY more than any team is even offering for Peavy. Even if Jake Peavy wasn’t openly on the block, Towers would do that deal yesterday, do a dance, and then return from his soaring to the moon.
Haha, yeah.
That’s a much better offer than I thought.
After looking at Cot’s I’m amazed at how cheaply JH is signed, in terms of both annual salary and years. I mean, he’s going to make less money than Mark Loretta this year.
After looking at his contract, I think Jhonny is probably the second player least likely to be traded. Not to say that he wouldn’t but right now it’d take a Peavy esque trade to get him.
