Mechanics Revisited: Anthony Reyes
I've already talked about Anthony Reyes and his poor mechanics in the past, but as I was going through some clips of mine, I realized I had one from when he was pitching with Cleveland.

Is the Scott Lewis/Meloan trade proposal a joke? I’m really asking.
If I’m Cleveland I take that trade and hire a good grand larceny lawyer.
Kyle – is there hope for a guy like Reyes at this point is his career? Or is he just going to go from injury to injury until there’s no snap left?

Roger Clemens made a big mechanical change after he had surgery, but in general, no one meaningfully changes their mechanics because it is simply too difficult to re-learn how to throw a baseball again.

Perhaps the Indians saw something in his mechanics that they believe they can fix. I doubt they’d just take Reyes if they didn’t think there was a potential upside.

a) We needed another starter last season.
2) The asking price was Luis Perdomo.

Fleerdon nailed it right on the head. He’ll pitch for a few years, he’ll cost nothing, and he we gave up Luis Perdomo.

As a strict hypothetical with no personal relevance to me at all, what if you’re a 24-year-old whose arm action has always been so bad — straight arm, wide open left shoulder, chin stuck out — that you kind of hope if you have kids that they don’t want to play baseball so you don’t have to ask a neighbor to play catch with them?

Heh.
Speaking from personal experience, I had a terrible arm action that resulted in serious pain throughout my youth. After studying more in depth about biomechanics, strength/conditioning, and pitching in general, I reworked my mechanics to a serviceable degree. While I still have a lot of work to do, I can throw every day with no pain, and I like to think that I don’t look too silly on the mound.
Though throwing an iron ball into a net is a little weird…

It’s funny, I was a center fielder and a pitcher back when I played. Pitching never hurt too bad, but if I had to make a lot of assist attempts, I’d always feel like my arm was going to snap clean off at the elbow.
I’d don’t play any more, but I’d settle for being able to get the ball across the infield without putting 20 degrees of arc on it. Do you recommend any sites or inexpensive resources for re-learning how to throw?

Not really. Soon I’ll have another site up that details pitching mechanics for the layperson, but that’s a future project that I’ll promote on my site. If you want to keep an eye out, feel free!
