Essentially, his arguement is that Jason Michaels is an unnecessary part for 2008. Unlike Dellucci, he would actually have some trade value right now.
Michaels' presence is blocking AB's for the future of the Tribe. Namely, Francisco and Marte.
Typically, the arrangement would go like this:
Against LHP, Blake in LF and Marte at 3B.
Against RHP, Dellucci in LF and Blake at 3B.
We may lose a bit offensively with Blake in LF vs Michaels, but moving forward, it is more important to know exactly what we have with Marte and Francisco. Michaels is not in our future plans.
It would leave a roster spot for Francisco (who doesn't have much else to prove in AAA) there in case of injury or poor performance (to Dellucci or Blake). He would certainly pick up more far AB's with Jason's absence.
