Grady Would've Toughed it Out

Projection systems throughout the country were rocked this morning by the news that all-World Super Hero Curtis Granderson was placed on the 15-DL with a broken finger. The Tigers are reportedly not concerned, since they have Cameron Maybin....uh, I mean...well a combination of Jacques Jones, Ryan Raburn, Inge, or...Freddy Guzman!?!?!?

Good times, people. Good times.

Bahahaha I'm too Canadian for my own good. Yes, I know Jacque doesn't have an "s" on the end. I'm just so used to typing that. I think I'll leave it for comedy's sake.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
On a somewhat related note, did anyone know that the Tigers might just have the best left fielder in american league?
In THT's five question series, the author said that the platoon of Jacque Thames might be the best left fielder in the al, with a straight face.

Also, Ryan did an excellent job for the Indians segment.

I feel a lot better about myself "othering" other baseball teams and their fans than I would "othering" people about things that actually matter.

Much to my chagrin, Jon Coutlangus was optioned to the Reds' AAA affiliate. How frustrating.

No mis-pronounced references to him on Sports Center ... or Countdown for that matter. <sigh>

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
So how long will Granderson really be out?  I know a broken finger takes a while to heal, especially if you have to put all that pressure on it while batting.  I was trying to figure out if it'd still be worth using a high pick in my fantasy draft on Granderson if this has the potential to be a nagging injury.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
Ah, hate to celebrate something like this. Grandy's a good guy. Plus, with him hurt, the media will be able to use that as an excuse when Grady blows him away this year.

"Granderson just never got on track after an early broken finger, but still managed to bat 280 with 18 stolen bases."

280 = career norm

i just don't see how shefield and ordonez don't go down at some point as well.  granderson was the guy you figured would be healthy.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
I believe it has something to do with an ancient Roman in a toga shouting, "Pizza, Pizza".

The fact that Ilitch's wife holds a controlling interest in one of those Detroit casinos meant to "save the city" probably make their W-2's contain more than a few zeroes.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
I can't really feel happy about this one. I genuinely like Curtis Granderson, and I hope he recovers quickly. He's just a great guy to root for.

If it was Sheff, I'd be thrilled. But not Granderson.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
i don't think anyone is thrilled the guy got hurt.  but i for one am thrilled that we - very early - get to see the lack of detroit's depth tested.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
There are very very few players I would ever root for injury.  I'm happy that this is likely to help us, but I'd just assume we beat the Tigers straight up.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
see, organizational depth, to me, is part of that straight-up battle.  it's not Miguel Cabrera vs. CC.  It's their 25, 40 man and beyond vs. ours.  Injuries or no.

That I can agree with...and I'm happy to celebrate our depth.  I just don't like to tempt bad karma by rooting for bad things...

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
I figure most people feel the same way; I just detected a bit of schadenfreude in Mario's post. Of course I want to beat the Tigers when they're at full strength; I think we all do. And nobody wants to see any players get hurt, except for the grade-A nounholes like Sheffield and AJ Pierogi. Granderson is just one of those guys that I'll root for no matter what uniform he's wearing. Other players in this group, for me, include Vlad Guererro, Prince Fielder, and Jeff Francis. Don't ask me why on Francis.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
skip that.  i read too fast.  i thought that was an extended list of nounholes, not the extended list of grandersons.  i like vlad too.

Re: Grady Would've Toughed it Out
We are beating them straight up -- dealing with injuries is part of the game.

I say, it's okay to feel bad for Grandy while still celebrating that the Tigers are screwed.

Alright fine, I'm not happy that Granderson is hurt.

Granderson is not the only one who will miss
some time with a broken finger; I seen on ESPNews this morning that Blue Jays' 3B Scott Rolen will miss an "indefinite" period of time due to a broken finger.
May the Tribe be great in 2008! :-)
