Barfield to AAA
For some reason I thought he was going to make the cut, but was I alone? Hasn't he performed much better than Carrol this spring? Unless it is about the money and the difference between the two contracts. Not sure if anyone else is surprised by this as well.

You may have been alone.
Carroll is a veteran who is experience as a part-time player. He also plays a fine shortstop and third base and, unlike Barfield, a very fine second base. He wasn't signed to give us another option, he was signed to be the big-league backup.
Barfield is best served by getting regular at-bats to get his swing and approach back to a serviceable place, and that's only going to happen in Buffalo at the moment.
I wonder why
Jay didn't say, "unlike Marte, a fine third base" ?

Hey
don't forget, I'm one of the few guys on this thread that actually has a technology background.

Well...
here at the engineering firm, ya gotta actually have to be licensed by the state to be considered a technocrat.

Didn't PE's go the way of the dinosaur with thin ties and wingtips?
By the way Chuck, how is your collection of thin ties and wingtips?

Actually, they're in, as are thin ties. BW is so 2004 right now.

Don't wear ties
There's about 500 PEs here in the Princeton office so we're a little more common than dinosaurs.

Oh I was only kidding. PEs are exceedingly rare in computer engineering, and in fact with regards to electrical engineering as a whole, they reside mostly in the power/transmission/fields sectors, because it turns out you need to be a PE to work for the power company.

In my business all of the disciplines must be licensed, since all of our designs and installations are subject to extreme liability.
Lately some states now offer a license in small circuit design and computer engineering - even software design. I don't know why, but they do.

Hey now
We're having a conversation about big people stuff. You kiddies run along and play with your new bbs.

As I said in my diary, Barfield clearly has to rework his approach at the plate, and improve his defense. The encouraging thing about his spring performance is that he was clearly making that effort. His walk rate during the Spring was dramatically higher than last season...although it coincided with a lot more Ks as well. He's got work, but I'm optimistic he'll make adjustments and particularly in the 2nd half, play well in Buffalo.
I have high hopes for Barfield as well. You weren't alone in wishing, Patrick, just maybe in believing. I still think that Barfield is a possible long term answer to 2nd. I'm glad he seems to be taking this challenge in the right way.
Now that the Bedard bandwagon has officially crashed into the Maritime Seas, solely the local "Barfield Bounces Back Believer."
