Game Thread: March 3, 2008

CLE: Carmona
TOR: McGowan

It doesn't look like there's any audio for today's game, so I have no idea how any of us will follow this game. Let's just make this a dumping ground for all thoughts Spring Training.

Me, I'm really excited about Aubrey's (SSS alarm) performance so far.

Man, I really thought this was 300 characters. Umm, everyone give suggestions for what Andrew should hold up at the Indians-Mets game on Friday (ESPN televised).

Re: Game Thread: March 3, 2008
OK, the time is quickly approaching where I must decide between mlb.tv and Extra Innings. Mlb.tv is sooooo much cheaper but my computer sucks... 256mb RAM... is there any way I can run mlb.tv reasonably smoothly?

Re: Game Thread: March 3, 2008
Well I did... it came standard with only 128 (!) and I bought an extra 256 so technically I have 320. But the RAM for this thing is impossible to find because it's so old. Plus it would be like getting a paint job on a '74 Pinto. Is there anything i can try to watch for free that would give me an indication of how well mlb.tv would run?

there isn't a free trial period on each?  i thought there usually was.  i would check them both out once the season starts and decide.

Re: Game Thread: March 3, 2008
I dunno. I guess at this point I'm really leaning towards mlb.tv, since Extra Innings would meaning dealing with Comcast and dropping their cable (while keeping the internet service) while paying for and dealing with DirecTV installation and increasing my monthly bill by about $60 plus the one-time costs.

With mlb.tv, you can log on on any computer, right, not just one IP address?

yeah, i used in on many computers in different states, etc.  if you plan to be gamethread intensive and glued to the computer anyway mlb.tv works well for that.  the big bonus for EI is getting to watch it on your couch on you regular tv.

Yeah I figured it was HD vs. more viewing options. And I guess I could persuade my roommate to let me use his computer. Do you get all the ST games if you sign up now?

Re: Game Thread: March 3, 2008
no idea.  i haven't had a chance to watch a game - just listen.  i had audio and tv both last year.  currently my audio works but from what i can tell on my credit cards/email i haven't been automatically renewed (which is fine for audio), but i am waiting to see if my cable company has EI again this year and plan to get that if so so i don't want to use my TV now in case it automatically renews me.  but, if you sign up now, i can't imagine why it wouldn't go into affect immediately.

Re: Game Thread: March 3, 2008
Speaking of which, I called Comcast earlier today on an unrelated issue & inquired about getting Extra Innings this year & they said I couldn't sign up for it until late March for whatever reason. Anyone else have issues with that? I signed up for a month of MLB.tv just to get any spring training games that may be aired only on that.

I'm 99% sure Comcast has Extra Innings again this year (they definitely did last year). It's on their website, listed as "Coming April 2008" or something, and she seemed to think that they WOULD have it, just don't have it setup yet.

Why dump Comcast if you want extra innings?  They offer it (at least in the northeast) for whatever godawful price they want, but they still offer it.  IIRC, it's only the NFL Sunday Ticket that is media-locked to satellite.

Carmona apparently following the CC Spring Training pitching regimen, as he gave up 3 hits, a walk, and a couple of runs in the first.

Re: Game Thread: March 3, 2008
I have no idea how the play-by-play went, but the box score also shows that there was a passed ball and a stolen base given up by Haad, so Carmona may not be 100% to blame for all of those runs. 3 hits & a walk is not great, but, you know, trying to find positives/excuses.

I'm sorry, I've actually blocked the existence of any entity known as the "Boston Red Sox" from my memory. As far as I can recall, they just ended last year's baseball season on October 17 for some reason. Might've been a strike or a lockout or something..? I don't remember, but it definitely ended then.
