7.09
It is interference by a batter or a runner when --
(d) Any batter or runner who has just been put out hinders or impedes any following play being made on a runner. Such runner shall be declared out for the interference of his teammate;
Rule 7.09(d) Comment: If the batter or a runner continues to advance after he has been put out, he shall not by that act alone be considered as confusing, hindering or impeding the fielders.

Based on the letter of the rule, even the traditional "clean slide" to break up the DP can be called as interference.  In the play in question today, however, it was not a traditional "clean slide," it was a clean slide combined with the runner attempting to grab the fielder's leg.  The interference call was technically correct and more or less in keeping with tradition as well. I would urge patience and understanding with the platform.

I can assure everybody that it was designed with high-volume sites in mind -- this is not the only one. The flagship site, Athletics Nation, is just as heavily commented if not moreso.

It's opening day, probably 20x more heavy usage of the overall network during these specific hours than at any previous time. Give them some time to work out the kinks, what they've done so far is pretty damned impressive.

I should add, the developers told us a week ago that they weren't totally happy yet with high-volume thread performance, and that's why I was a little aggressive in making the second thread. That second one went south faster than expected, and I'm not sure why.

Jay - I know there are system-wide problems, but I just got booted off LGT for over 30 min. When I say booted I mean the entire site crashed and wouldn't load.

know what's kind of a downer? In USAToday's AL Central preview last week, 12 or so players in the division voted on best curveball, best fastball, best baserunner, etc etc,. Well, in the 'most feared hitter' category, Hafner got zero votes. I'd bet a year or two ago he ends up with atleast half the votes.

For those not watching, or those who think Hawk Harrelson knows what he's talking about, Cabrera went into second without a chance at all of breaking up the DP because Peralta had tagged & was nowhere near the bag. HE GRABBED HIM WITH HIS ARMS as he was sliding by & Hawk somehow thinks that's not interference.

Actually the Brewers are pretty confident in Mota. They reworked his entire motion back to what it was like with the Dodgers where he had success. Apparently, his motion had become hunched over in the past three years and his ball leveled out. The Brewers straightened him out and he saw a slight increase in velocity. I saw some scouts impressions of him, and they said that he looked like a different pitcher from the past few years.

I will be following that situation with some interest.

The initial report was that he was day to day with stiffness. All in all, that seems to be good news. We'll probably won't know much more until the game on Wednesday.

Great game and great win!

I have to say, reading over this specific thread, I got some good laughs out of how often Hawk complains, and his "brilliant" (sarcasm) explanation of why Cabrera didn't interfere with Peralta - that was priceless!

One thing about the new site - perhaps it's just me, but it seems that I can only see the game threads in the middle of the home page, but the threads from the other LGT posters are not showing up on the right side of the home page. I can see them when I access the game thread directly though. Perhaps though it was because I was trying to access MinorLeagueBall.com at the same time I was loading up LGT and the home page never finished loading, even though my computer told me otherwise - I'm not sure. Just thought I'd mention it to see if there is a glitch that needs to be checked on.

At any rate, we had some "kinks" that will hopefully be worked out by the time Wednesday rolls around, as well as Sabathia's next start, and hope that Victor isn't out too long (and that's he 100% healthy when he returns,) but all-in-all, a pretty successful home opener (and the Tigers losing on top of it is just "icing on the cake." :-)

Just my 2 cents.
