Game Thread : March 8, 2008

The game is on both STO and WTAM today. To all of you in Ohio, you've got no excuse not to be here, since you're hopelessly snowed in. Hope everyone's doing okay!

Carmona starting for the Tribe, by the way.

Hammy says Carmona's slider is better this year.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
With very wet field conditions, the Indians have their "no one important can get injured" lineup in play.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
Is the field at Winter Haven situated on top of the Fountain of Youth?  I mean, have they ever heard of drains?

I, for one, think it's great they're moving to Arizona.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
I read that they had some pipes burst near the concession stands a couple days ago. I remember it happening last year, too.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
I can honestly say that I love going to Arizona for spring training and cannot wait for the Tribe's move.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
So how's everyone dealing with all this lovely snow? I for one made it home from school safely, but I sure as heck won't be wandering around the ol' hometown for awhile.

That one landed a wind-assisted 415 feet away by the sound of it.

Tribe's up 1-0 (Garko's shot scored Shoppach in the first). It's now the start of the second.

Barf has caught the last two outs. One more to go as Carmona chews through the Phillies.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
The game was supposed to be tape delayed on STO, airing at 10:30, but this snowstorm has postponed the basketball championships at a guess.

I haven't been able to listen for 20 minutes. The radio station cut in with a list of closings.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
I know most of you guys are Cavs fans as well, but I'm disappointed that WTAM has that over the Tribe.  Of course it's just spring training, but ugh... I can't stand basketball.

Of course, WTAM will likely never work for me again.

No shame in that Laffey, it's Ryan Freaking Howard, after all.

Aaron Laffey, I hear the spring and early summer are nice in Buffalo...

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
He did pitch damn well in his first two innings of work. But yeah, I think he nearly clinched his spot in Buffalo with his work in the 6th.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
I dunno. Lee certainly hasn't been locking it down.

by Voltaire on Mar 8, 2008 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
Obviously it's far from decided yet, but with Laffey's wildness so far and Lee's continued feline sleepiness, the door is wide open for Sowers to step up and reclaim a rotation spot.  Which, if I was being honest with myself, is probably what I would most like to see happen anyway.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
For sanity's sake I want Cliff to step up and take the spot, because I think we'll see fireworks if he gets the ticket to Buffalo he deserves right now.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
Yes.  And I'll throw one more name out there that has stood out to me a little in Josh Rodriguez.  He looks good in the field and has made pretty good contact at the plate.  You can see what scouts like in his swing.

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
Man. I listened to most of this game on the radio & just turned on mlb.tv in time to catch some sloppy as hell baseball. Maybe I should stick to the radio.

by zempf on Mar 8, 2008 4:13 PM EST reply actions

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
I don't know how sloppy it really is.  There are some pretty strong winds down there that have been talked about all game.  They probably should have been outs, but it really would be difficult in that wind.

by Fundamentals on Mar 8, 2008 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

Re: Game Thread : March 8, 2008
Oh, I totally understand the winds. It's just much worse to actually see it on video than it is to hear the announcers laughing about it on the radio.
