Split Squad Action with the Nationals this afternoon.  In the away game, Jeremy Sowers struggled in the first inning, giving up four hits, three runs and a walk.  In the home game, Jake Westbrook has been amazing and Barfield and Marte went back-to-back with shots that sounded like no-doubters for a 2-0 Tribe lead.

Sowers now at 1.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R (all earned).  On the plus side, Hammy had it wrong and Sowers has not given up a walk... yet.

Also mildly concerning was a Hammy report about two pitchers yesterday where Laffey and Jensen were each topping out, according to the scout he talked to, in the 85-86 range.

Hafner with an RBI double, scoring Michaels.  3-0 Tribe at home, 6-0 Nats on the road.

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
I watched both the Mets and the Phillies games and I thought they were using the slow gun.  Everybody was off about 4 mph.  They had Fausto at 90-91 during his three innings.  I wouldn't worry about it.  The scout in question must've been using the slow gun as well.

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
Sowers and Lee have not made a positive impression in their attempts to reclaim the 5th spot in the rotation from Laffey.

It looks like no one really "wants" it.  I know that's not the case, but no one is proving that they would be better than the others.

So what happens if Carroll goes the entire spring without a hit?

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
Then he'll really be due for the rest of the season! Right?

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
Just noticed that Garko is not in either game.  I asumme he's with the away team since Dellucci and Jhonny are the only regulars on that team.

Ok, I forget Guitz and Shoppach.  My bad.  It does seem like our "A" team is playing their "b" team and vice versa.

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
4-0 at home as Michaels goes yard.  7-0 on the road.  Bauer gives up a run and the Indians have only two hits, one each from Gutz and Jhonny.

Hafner's RBI earlier gave him 4 in the past two days, after having 5 all last spring, if that means anything.

Pitching lines at home:
Westbrook- 3 IP, 1 H (should have been an error on Marte), 1 BB, 5 K
Kobayashi- 1 IP, 0 H, 1 K
Fultz- 1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K (back on for a second inning)

Words you might never see again: Marte and Barfield go back-to-back.

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
Gutz is 1-1 with 2 walks in the road game.

5-1 at home as Sizemore scores on a Camacaro sac fly (which is another phrase you might never see again).

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
I'm definitely higher on Gutz than most baseball 'experts' are. If he can up his walk rate, he'd be awesome fit near the top of the order.

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
Michaels had a good day.  So did Hafner, Marte and Gutierrez...all encouraging.

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
What are the chances Dellucci and Michaels can both do well the first half of the year and we can then trade them off like we did with Benuardo and replace them with some combination of Choo/Francisco/Snyder/etc...?

Re: Games Thread: March 9, 2008
Well if that happens than I take it that we somehow collapsed everywhere else and our out of the playoff hunt.

Anyone know who the PTBNL ended up being in the Carroll trade? Or when we find out about this?
