I was just going to walk away from the game today…but I received five texts in an hour…..so I guess here I am…

guys are new to the ML seem to have the Indians number
tonight Galarraga, last night Lawrie and some of the A’s starters had virtually no ML experience

I’ve often wondered if every team’s fans feel like their team does this. Never seen any research on the subject.
I would theorize that perhaps hitters with a more thoughtful and methodical approach might fall prey to this. That is, hitters where the ability to learn and adapt is a significant part of their game might naturally do worse seeing a pitcher for the first time.

Yeah, I’d abandoned the game as well. Went to play with the cat, tried to care about the debate, but it wasn’t happening & here I am again. Sad.

Anyone have any data on the worst contract year performances of all-time?
by supermarioelia on Apr 16, 2008 9:49 PM EDT 0 recs
As I said in the long-ago first thread, Andruw Jones last year was AWFUL & he STILL got 2 years at $18 million per. I’m sure CC’s losing value here, but he’s still going to get paid.

I don’t know, if he’d been a free agent after 2006 (with a 126 OPS+) instead of 2007 (with an 88 OPS+), I have to imagine he’d have been looking at at least a Soriano-esque contract.

Outside of Lee, Westbrook and to an extent Carmona…do we have a single pitcher who is meeting expectations?
by mjschaefer on Apr 16, 2008 9:53 PM EDT 0 recs
That’s not really a fair way to look at it. Westbrook and Lee are way over expectations.
The starting pitching has actually been pretty good.

Fair or not…..this team as a whole has been underachieving. Lee and Westbrook have been the best pitching bright spots. I don’t think Westbrook is a 2 era pitcher, but I do think he’ll be a 3.5 or lower. Lee…well he’s just a wild card.
I’m just not happy with anybody. Granted I know its only April..but still

Right. Not without his permission and clearing waivers. And I actually think he would not clear waivers. Some garbage team would pick him up, rehab him and trade him to a contending club at the deadline. Hopefully, that won’t be us.
