4/17 - Minor Lines
The Good......
1) Wes Hodges is treating AA pitchers to his "see ball, hit ball" motto....
2) Beau Mills is posting quality numbers in every department - Ks, BBs and XBH
3) Aside from getting butchered in his second start, Laffey has had two very strong outings in AA with decent K/9 numbers.
The Bad.....
1) Weglarz isn't hitting, period. That said it probably isn't his fault since people seem intent on walking him 39% of the time [14 BB].
2) No one, except for Andy Gonazalez, is doing much of anything with the bat at AAA
3) Jeff Stevens gave up his first runs of the season! He sucks!
The Ugly.....
1) Lofgren has a bad case of the C.C [WHIP = 2.31]
2) Chris Giminez can't seem to buy a hit, while Hodges can't buy a walk. Maybe AA pitchers want to consider sending the hittable pitches Giminez's way and the walks Hodges' way? Just saying.....

Are you keeping these stats yourself in excel? There’s no an internet resource where are useful guys are sorted like this is there?
I don’t know what to do about Lil’ Nicky. I mean, you can’t tell him to start swinging outside the zone can you? At his age, I’d say no way.
But how’s he supposed to hit if he’s walking 2-3 times a game? It’s like he’s pinch hitting.
Regardless, he’s been a bit better over the last couple-getting a couple of hits to go with the walks.
Mills is just sick.

I just cut and paste off of MILB.com’s website. I filter out the non-prospects as best I can.
NBR (No Borowski Run): Refers to that run which puts the Indians up by 4 over an opponent, thereby drastically reducing the chances of Joe Borowski pitching in a game.

Huh. It looks like you’re filtering a lot of dreck but maybe I’m overrating our dreck.

Heh. I was just browsing THT’s site and looked at the Indians’ GB rates, etc… Our hitters are popping up on the infield at abnormally high rates and converting far fewer fly balls into HRs. Looks like once those numbers fall in line with normal, we’ll be fine.

And C.C opposing batters are having the opposite ‘problem’ (fewer pop flies, ton more HRs and LDs).

How about Steven Wright, 12 IP 5 H 2 R 1 HR 1BB 13 K. Also, I recall him pitching well in the opener that ended up getting canceled. I’m assuming the long term plan is still bullpen, but its nice to see him starting off well, after a dissappointing season last year.

I think it was 3 hitless innings in the suspended opener. He’s been a very pleasant surprise so far. Here’s an article that goes into a little more detail on his new approach:

Guys, please try to notice … those long web addresses do not work unless you put them inside a formal link, that is, linking one or more words to the site. The system tries to parse them but always bails out after the “&;” string.

I love that Weglarz is 4/22 and still has a .500 OBP. And hey, 2 of his 4 hits are doubles.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

Indeed. The hybrid, early season Wes Weglarz or Nick Hodges entity would be an Adam Dunn clone!
72ABs, 22H, 4 2B, 5HR and 16BBs!
