Tribe sucks when Brick eats tapas.
So, what the heck. I know this is a mis-use of a fanpost, and am basically being impatient. I have a ton of baseball catching up to do and while I do, would love it if people could give me some quick shots here as to what's been going on with the tribe the last two weeks. Two weeks without knowing anything going on in baseball is a lot, even if enjoying the hell out of Spain. I know I didn't want to come back to see the Central standings the way they are.
The good news is, I'll be working my way back into the fold again and we can start our run back to the top!

Some struggles by Astrocab and flashy glovework. Also, a knack for getting on base.

Donde en Espana estabas? Probastes tortilla, chorizo, o jamon serrano?
by Joe. on Apr 20, 2008 6:40 PM EDT 0 recs
madrid, girona and barcelona.
all of the above and about a couple dozen more. stuff i can’t even recall the name. Galacian Pulpa was easily my favorite. patatas bravas was like our bread over there. i think we had them every single meal to get started. some of the coolest stuff was some crazy crap we had at the more hole in the wall Catalan places.

Cool. Both sides of my family are from Galicia so that’s cool that you enjoyed the pulpo. Never been a fan though, not gonna lie.
Also, did you find a lot of Catalunians in Girona or Barcelona refusing to speak Spanish. They’re hardcore about their language over there, but they don’t get violent over it like some Basques do.

we hardly even noticed the catalan in girona – they seemed very tourist-ready and almost as easy to communicate with as everyone in madrid. barcelona – yes. we had some issues in some areas off-the-beaten-paths (which we were on a lot). we got by easy with our 7 combined years of high school spanish and plane cramming in madrid and girona, but not very often in barcelona – either came off as idiots trying to speak english or idiots trying to speak spanish – which now that you mention it, definitely seemed to bug them more.

Here’s where I get to pull out my “I studied in Spain for 6 months so I’m an expert on the place” card. (Not really; i’m just going to comment on the food)
I loved all the fish I had in Galicia except the pulpo. The texture is just gross. And for the most part, I found I didn’t really like Spanish food all that much, although good, simple tortilla and papas bravas are really wonderful.
I don’t get the love for tapas places over here; it’s cool to have a little dish of olives or potatoes or whatever while you’re having some wine, but to make a meal of it? No thanks.

one thing about the food over there is the amount of salt those people consume. it’s out of control how salty most things are. throw in the good coffee and the cheap wine and beer and i will need to consume gross abouts of water for the next two months to re-hydrate myself.

Stop with the tapas already. After you’ve reviewed the events of the past couple of weeks, you will understand why most of us are hoping that JoeBo never comes back from DL-land, why some of us spent the winter fretting about how to beef up our offense at the OF corners and at 3b, and why we were darn lucky that the Tribe didn’t dump Cliff Lee the way we wanted them to. Welcome back.

Welcome back Brick.
Your return obviously will serve as the impetus for the Tribe rattling off 9 of 13 to put them up where they belong.

there are several. we’ve just split up getting seats for a few games throughout the year. tom’s thrown out doing a watch a game at a bar soon. you’ll have to show with you equivalent of red shoes, tossing hats or awesome sunglasses.

historically she’s been good luck, especially for casey blake. but i’ll keep tabs on it and consider alternative means of commitment if i find being married directly affects the tribe’s well being.
