Damn, C.C., do we ever need you to step up tonight …

YEAHHHH Our Ace is pitching.. We got this in the bag… For you history buffs, this should be the equivalent to Germany invading northern Africa with automatic weapons pitted against spears.. Are we carrying the spears?

Might explain our lack of success hitting the freakin’ baseball …

speaking of Missouri, St. Louis is 13-8 even though Gagne has now blown 4
by palcal on Apr 22, 2008 7:33 PM EDT 0 recs
I thought Gagne was on the Brewers

Yeah, the standard line is that it’s hard for any one-year contract to be too damaging. But as far as one year deals go, this is a bad one.

7 innings, 6 earned would be no further… but still bad.
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich.

I’d consider that a step in the wrong direction, even if that’s better.
Unless, of course, a couple of those ‘earned’ runs are permitted by a reliever.

I’m assuming if stuff like this is getting around the blogosphere, the FO has a good idea of what to do with him. Just how easily is it fixable?

Fear not…Dellucci’s 2008 emergence back to relevance continues tonight. He’s been having good ABs.
If Sabathia keeps us within a touchdown, the Indians are winning this.
by xrickx on Apr 22, 2008 7:48 PM EDT 0 recs
Random..but on the heels of his 3000th strikeout, I’m still amazed at John Smoltz. Talk about underrated…
But 64 rookie innings in 1988 aside, has that guy EVER had a bad year? Ever?
by xrickx on Apr 22, 2008 7:53 PM EDT 0 recs
I seem to recall him having a really terrible season five or six years ago (?) and going to the pen for a while, but the specifics escape me.

he went to the pen for a few years after having TJ surgery and missing a whole year (without looking i think the year he missed was 2000)
if he had a terrible year it was probably the year before surgery. when he was in the pen he was an insanely good RP. compare his years against gagne at the same time. smoltz the closer was sick.

He had TJ and the Braves brought him back as a closer…and he was pretty much dominate to the tune of 91.7% conversion (154/168).

If the tribe is going to stink it up this year, I’d rather them get knocked out of contention EARLY… Like 20 games back. The ulcers in my stomach would be ever so grateful to not get crowded with more from the 08 season.
Then again, maybe we need a cardboard cut-out of Larry Dolan to motivate our guys. Only we take a piece off when we lose a game instead.
by lesterjl on Apr 22, 2008 8:04 PM EDT 0 recs
Royals announcers have already displayed their idiocy. They are whining that Meche is always matched against an ace, then cite Jered Weaver and Livan Hernandez as examples. Oh, and C.C.
And this gem: “The Royals lead the league in fielding percentage, a good reason for the pitchers to throw strikes.”
by SuddenSam on Apr 22, 2008 8:05 PM EDT 0 recs
that’s absolutely the only reason to throw strikes.

Then don’t look at the head-to-head graphic here. It’ll just make it worse.

Yeah, I don’t think I will click there. I do know that in our lineup tonight, only DD and Garko are up above their career OPS by small margins. And everyone else in the lineup is down from their career mark by at least that margin. And several by much much more.

The Tigers are pounding the Rangers so there is a good chance the Indians need to win to keep out of last
by palcal on Apr 22, 2008 8:11 PM EDT 0 recs
Yeah, but they are doing it by hitting the ball out of the park and jogging around the bases. Pretty lazy if you ask me.

It probably has changed channels, which I think is due to the switch to HD. It happened to me a week or so ago, and it took me two days to figure out where they moved it. Go to the STO website and click on “STO Channel Numbers“
