YEAHHHH Our Ace is pitching.. We got this in the bag… For you history buffs, this should be the equivalent to Germany invading northern Africa with automatic weapons pitted against spears.. Are we carrying the spears?
7 innings, 6 earned would be no further… but still bad.
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich.
Random..but on the heels of his 3000th strikeout, I’m still amazed at John Smoltz. Talk about underrated…
But 64 rookie innings in 1988 aside, has that guy EVER had a bad year? Ever?
I seem to recall him having a really terrible season five or six years ago (?) and going to the pen for a while, but the specifics escape me.
--
Right now, I'll take .500 and run. I'm a cheap happy.
he went to the pen for a few years after having TJ surgery and missing a whole year (without looking i think the year he missed was 2000)
if he had a terrible year it was probably the year before surgery. when he was in the pen he was an insanely good RP. compare his years against gagne at the same time. smoltz the closer was sick.
I approve of this.

If the tribe is going to stink it up this year, I’d rather them get knocked out of contention EARLY… Like 20 games back. The ulcers in my stomach would be ever so grateful to not get crowded with more from the 08 season.
Then again, maybe we need a cardboard cut-out of Larry Dolan to motivate our guys. Only we take a piece off when we lose a game instead.
Royals announcers have already displayed their idiocy. They are whining that Meche is always matched against an ace, then cite Jered Weaver and Livan Hernandez as examples. Oh, and C.C.
And this gem: “The Royals lead the league in fielding percentage, a good reason for the pitchers to throw strikes.”
Wow, I’m legitimately not looking forward to this. My head knows that it’s still very early, but I’m feeling a little beat down.
Then don’t look at the head-to-head graphic here. It’ll just make it worse.

The Tigers are pounding the Rangers so there is a good chance the Indians need to win to keep out of last
It’s telling me it’s changed channels. I look and there’s nothing but static. Not been a great day for baseball so far.
It probably has changed channels, which I think is due to the switch to HD. It happened to me a week or so ago, and it took me two days to figure out where they moved it. Go to the STO website and click on “STO Channel Numbers“

So….if Ben Fran performs, any chance Gutz goes down while Ben fran stays up with the big team?
It's the Arizona talking, really.
By “performs,” do you mean that he does a magic show in the clubhouse, or appears as Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Cleveland Playhouse? Because he’s not likely to see much PT.
Now, if by “performs” you mean that he does something wicked and nasty with Eric Wedge…

Guess I was hoping for something positive on the baseball diamond resulting in runs. I figured he’d get a few AB’s.

wedge does not runs. he would rather give ABs to only 10 hitters all season.

Reminds me … I dragged my bride to an Expos game on our honeymoon (in 2001) and although stade olympique was a truly horrible ballpark, I had a great time. The best part was when Geoff Blum hit a home run to give the Expos the lead in the 8th and the guy behind me stands up and yells “OUI MONSIEUR!! OUI MONSIEUR!!” as the ball is leaving the yard.
best home run call ever.
Who?

You must attend next year’s US Open tennis tourney in Queen’s. You would not believe the number of random hottie Russian tennis players that no one’s heard of. And if you can speak Russian to them? Wow, let’s just say the buffet would be open. Go the Sunday before the tourney when they practice and it’s free….that’s where we met most of them last year.

Danny: A little, but only one sentence.
Sedgwick: Well, let’s have it, mate!
Danny: Ya vas lublyu.
Sedgwick (stumbling over the words): Ya…vas…lublyu? What’s it mean?
Danny: “I love you.”
Sedgwick (incredulous): I love you? What bloody good is that?
Danny: I don’t know; I wasn’t going to use it myself.

It was Russian in Latin script. I’m using my roommate’s computer, which doesn’t have the cyrillic capabilities. Russians usually use “raz” insteah of “adeen” when counting “one, two, three.”
