Damn, C.C., do we ever need you to step up tonight …

Right now, I'll take .500 and run. I'm a cheap happy.

YEAHHHH Our Ace is pitching.. We got this in the bag… For you history buffs, this should be the equivalent to Germany invading northern Africa with automatic weapons pitted against spears.. Are we carrying the spears?

by lesterjl on Apr 22, 2008 7:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Might explain our lack of success hitting the freakin’ baseball …

speaking of Missouri, St. Louis is 13-8 even though Gagne has now blown 4

by palcal on Apr 22, 2008 7:33 PM EDT   0 recs

I thought Gagne was on the Brewers

It's the Arizona talking, really.

by RD74 on Apr 22, 2008 8:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

sorry, he blew for it for the Brewers, who came back to beat the Cardinals.
the Brewers are 12-8

by palcal on Apr 22, 2008 8:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

gotcha.

cant help but think Gagne may be closed to finished.

Yeah, the standard line is that it’s hard for any one-year contract to be too damaging. But as far as one year deals go, this is a bad one.

by dgcambridge on Apr 22, 2008 8:10 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

We should send them our CL.

by JulioBernazard on Apr 22, 2008 8:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can’t imagine CC sliding any further. I just can’t.

by jhon on Apr 22, 2008 7:35 PM EDT   0 recs

7 innings, 6 earned would be no further… but still bad.

The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich.

by westbrook on Apr 22, 2008 7:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’d consider that a step in the wrong direction, even if that’s better.

Unless, of course, a couple of those ‘earned’ runs are permitted by a reliever.

by jhon on Apr 22, 2008 7:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m assuming if stuff like this is getting around the blogosphere, the FO has a good idea of what to do with him. Just how easily is it fixable?

by 7foot3 on Apr 22, 2008 7:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I was thinking the same thing, so i left him in my fantasy rotation.

I suppose my signature is kinda inappropriate now?

by westbrook on Apr 22, 2008 7:40 PM EDT   0 recs

Fear not…Dellucci’s 2008 emergence back to relevance continues tonight. He’s been having good ABs.

If Sabathia keeps us within a touchdown, the Indians are winning this.

by xrickx on Apr 22, 2008 7:48 PM EDT   0 recs

Random..but on the heels of his 3000th strikeout, I’m still amazed at John Smoltz. Talk about underrated…

But 64 rookie innings in 1988 aside, has that guy EVER had a bad year? Ever?

by xrickx on Apr 22, 2008 7:53 PM EDT   0 recs

I seem to recall him having a really terrible season five or six years ago (?) and going to the pen for a while, but the specifics escape me.

--
Right now, I'll take .500 and run. I'm a cheap happy.

by vbc3 on Apr 22, 2008 7:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

he went to the pen for a few years after having TJ surgery and missing a whole year (without looking i think the year he missed was 2000)
if he had a terrible year it was probably the year before surgery. when he was in the pen he was an insanely good RP. compare his years against gagne at the same time. smoltz the closer was sick.

by mpstable on Apr 22, 2008 8:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He had TJ and the Braves brought him back as a closer…and he was pretty much dominate to the tune of 91.7% conversion (154/168).

by xrickx on Apr 22, 2008 8:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’d like to see Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz retire the same year and go into Cooperstown together.

by SuddenSam on Apr 22, 2008 7:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

We are gonna slip through the Meche tonight.

I approve of this.

"Mixed emotions. Rather see him hit PEDroia [with that pitch]. I don’t care if he is in the dugout"

by Gradysmanldy on Apr 22, 2008 9:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If the tribe is going to stink it up this year, I’d rather them get knocked out of contention EARLY… Like 20 games back. The ulcers in my stomach would be ever so grateful to not get crowded with more from the 08 season.

Then again, maybe we need a cardboard cut-out of Larry Dolan to motivate our guys. Only we take a piece off when we lose a game instead.

by lesterjl on Apr 22, 2008 8:04 PM EDT   0 recs

Royals announcers have already displayed their idiocy. They are whining that Meche is always matched against an ace, then cite Jered Weaver and Livan Hernandez as examples. Oh, and C.C.

And this gem: “The Royals lead the league in fielding percentage, a good reason for the pitchers to throw strikes.”

by SuddenSam on Apr 22, 2008 8:05 PM EDT   0 recs

that’s absolutely the only reason to throw strikes.

The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich.

by westbrook on Apr 22, 2008 8:10 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wow, I’m legitimately not looking forward to this. My head knows that it’s still very early, but I’m feeling a little beat down.

by dgcambridge on Apr 22, 2008 8:08 PM EDT   0 recs

Then don’t look at the head-to-head graphic here. It’ll just make it worse.

by vbc3 on Apr 22, 2008 8:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I don’t think I will click there. I do know that in our lineup tonight, only DD and Garko are up above their career OPS by small margins. And everyone else in the lineup is down from their career mark by at least that margin. And several by much much more.

by dgcambridge on Apr 22, 2008 8:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Okay, Grady. Beat Gilgamesh.

by Julie on Apr 22, 2008 8:10 PM EDT   0 recs

The Tigers are pounding the Rangers so there is a good chance the Indians need to win to keep out of last

by palcal on Apr 22, 2008 8:11 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, but they are doing it by hitting the ball out of the park and jogging around the bases. Pretty lazy if you ask me.

by dgcambridge on Apr 22, 2008 8:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Uh, what happened to my STO? Any other Time Warner viewers here?

by maledicta on Apr 22, 2008 8:11 PM EDT   0 recs

Ours is working.

by Julie on Apr 22, 2008 8:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It’s telling me it’s changed channels. I look and there’s nothing but static. Not been a great day for baseball so far.

by maledicta on Apr 22, 2008 8:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ours seems to be completely normal. I’m SE of Columbus.

by Julie on Apr 22, 2008 8:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It probably has changed channels, which I think is due to the switch to HD. It happened to me a week or so ago, and it took me two days to figure out where they moved it. Go to the STO website and click on “STO Channel Numbers
